No, the issue that I have is that people like Fintan completely ignore the small percentage of deaths in those categories. They don't even acknowledge them. They make blanket statements that are factually inaccurate.

I don't ignore the deaths, I accept and understsnd that they are no more likely to die of Covid than of the flu.

My worry is, we will be on lockdown for the rest of our lives.

Influenza will be worthy of a lockdown

We won’t be. Firstly the country won’t be able to afford it. We’ll adapt and life will find a way. Vaccines are looking promising too.

Will the Oxford vaccine be any safer?

A Doctor on Fox News says that children who don't take the Vaccine will be made to wear a Yellow identifying badge.
Presumably the vaccine will be administered at a forced isolation camp...

If you don't take the Vaccine you won't be allowed into your workplace, School or College, you won't be allowed to Travel...and I'd say will be kept in a de-facto Quarantine state until you get the Vaccine..

    Indeed sounds like 1930’s Germany.

The fact the country can't afford it doesn't influence the decision to lockdown.

NPHET are in charge and couldn't give a sh#t that Ireland is rapidly going broke

This virus has taken the vulnerable and terrible as it is it definitely expediated their demise. It is obvious now with with 4 times the worldwide infections and no increase in mortality that this illness is on the wane.

One of the food production facilities had 87 positive cases, 84 of which were asymptomatic.

84 people out of 87 healthy enough to attend work had no idea they were "sick".

Vulnerable people died early on, for almost everyone else its not even a flu

They will if it goes broke. Who will pay their salaries?

It's not a pandemic anymore it's now a casedemic. Just look at the hospitalisation numbers and the ICU numbers and you'll see that the situation is well under control but, they'll keep banging on about the increasing case numbers to keep the hysteria going.

From what I can see, its somewhere between a hangover and a cold for those healthy enough to attend work, if you are unlucky enough to be one of the 3 out of 87 that had symptoms in one facility

Probably very true...but the dissent will ramp up 100% if the supports people have been used to so far are reduced. When you box yourself into a corner and can only see Lockdown down the tunnel then you create this mess.
If anything it’s getting worse- business largely took it on the chin March to June...however as we’ve from LOK they’re no longer (and very rightly in my opinion) going to tolerate government imposed losses. The “In it together “ illusion is fading very fast

How are you coming up with this nonsense? Do you think all the elderly in the county have been wiped out? all the people with existing conditions are already dead?

There are still huge numbers of potential Covid victims out there. Christ this thread is some echo-chamber.

It may be a bit early to say that for definite but there are growing indicators this could be true. What really bugs me is that we hardly seem to make any effort to find out. We seem much more interested in talking it up all the time.

Panic and fear are much sexier media bedfellows than calm, rational reasoned common sense based on the actual stats

Care to explain how there has only been 12 deaths over the last 4 weeks since July 24th. If there are so many potential victims of covid out there why hasn't there been a big increase in deaths?

I said vulnerable, not all elderly are vulnerable.

Also if you are fit to go to work, you have an 84 out of 87 chance of not being sick in any way, even though you will return a positive test.

Try out the main thread, I imagine it would more suitable

Even if a vaccine is found soon, say Q1 of 2021, how long do people actually think it will take to me mass produced, and administered to the people in this country?
We are way down the pecking order in terms of global influence, to even think we will be in the first few rounds of batches is laughable. It could be well into 2022 before we start to have any meaningful mass vaccination program here.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Yeah will do, looks like the armchair experts here have it all figured out. Must kill you that the real experts are calling the shots not you ;)

Oh I dunno, I don't claim to be an expert but at a guess maybe because:
    - There are less vulnerable people getting it right now compared to April/May, younger people are the bulk of those being infected.
    - Vulnerable are more informed and able to take better precautions
    - Possibly better therapeutic care available

What's your theory? the virus is miraculously not harmful anymore? there are no more vulnerable people left?

Ehhhhh the HSE disagree with your medical analysis of who is vulnerable, are you a doctor?
So the results from one meat plant form the basis of all your stats, makes sense
And what is it are you saying anyway? those people might be ok, what about all the people they could spread it to, will they be fine too?

I get it, this thread is better suited to the small bunch that are happy to repeat the same story, this thread is not for opposing opinions. Better to accuse them of being panic merchants and hope they leave you alone yeah?

Ireland will do as we are told and even better like we did in 2010 USC is still on payslips

What i love about this situation is the predictabilty of it ... they go with whst they perceive to be the easiest choice, they always do here. .. lockdown , except the morons seem to think its a long term solution, we are a few months out from the band of fools , being put in very awkward positions for an extended period of time... they created the situation, without any thought for even a few months down the road... let them deal with the fall out. Theyll be dealing with covid situation and the financial clusterfcuk amongst others that they created, at the same time! Lol!

Stopped watching the news months ago , ill be tuning in to watch the squirming rats again, post budget! Can then also enjoy the delicious irony of the pro lockdown rte , criticise the government, for the damage the extent of the kockdown has caused! Comedy !

It's literally a case of pulling them out of their beds and testing them in order to pump up those numbers. Such a farce and a con. Convid19

I don't have a theory but it's plain as day that the virus is running it's course and the lack of deaths over the last few weeks is evidence of that.

We're only listening to one point of view from one group of experts where's the balanced debate about the possibility of herd immunity?

Why aren't we listening to other experts with differing points of view or ideas? And I'm not talking about internet experts with no qualifications I'm talking about people with PHDs.

If you do your own research you'll find out that there are other options available but they are being ignored.
