So much talk over the last few months as been on pubs and people not social distancing etc.

The government need to get a handle on the things that are actually causing issues!!!

    1) The Nursing Homes: We knew from early on that this illness was bad news for people in nursing homes. And yet we allowed it to get in and kill over 1000 people. Thankfully we seem to have this under better control now but it took too long.

    2) Healthcare Workers - Highest rate of infection in the world! Not a record to be proud of. Why is that? Was the PPE provided fit for purpose? I doubt this is even under control now. Just low amount of hospital cases.

    3) Airports - To this very day, still flights arriving from USA and other Covid hotspots. Why???

    4) Meat Plants - We knew back in May that meat factories were causing lots of cases. What was done to prevent it from happening again? What is in place to stop it happening again and again?

    5) The elderly - Look, I know it’s not pleasant, but the illness is most dangerous for them. There should be strong advice for them to at least minimise their activity. If these keep these safe, the death rate will be tiny anyways.

It is frustrating having more and more restrictions put in place when we are failing to address the root cause of our issues.

Lockdown is simply not working. There is no doubt it can help to slow the spread down. But it comes at a huge financial cost and does nothing to address the root cause. And it can only work if the people are behind it. Lockdown fatigue is a very real thing after 5 months.

A vaccine might still be months away, if it even comes at all.

We badly need to start finding ways to live with the virus. Taking action on the points above would go a long way towards achieving that without the need to constantly restrict people.

Anyways, I’m off on my staycation in the morning so going to take a week away from posting.

Hopefully these clusters will be trending in a better direction when I return.

Threads gone full Trump. All the experts are wrong, masks are useless.

Posters have literally quoted eminent European Medical experts saying that exact thing. Not Trump. Again everyone who disagrees is Trumpist etc :pac:

Yeah I’ve just stopped responding to it. You can present the facts and let people decide for themselves. You can list your reasons for being against a lockdown, break down your argument but replies will be “lol tindfoil hat”.

Absolute waste of time. It’s brainwashing by state and media. By the time these people will wake up the country will be a wasteland.

Well we know what Ireland's is based on- hysteria. Most wouldn't know what a clinical study is even if they took part in one.

She's Dutch. And they're mandatory on public transport in the Netherlands.

You're either making this stuff up yourself, it reading some truly awful sources.

I just put them few up as a few people on here were saying we are doing what every other country is doing when in fact we are not we are going well beyond it.

Henning Bundgaard is not a woman. The clue is in the first name.

He's a cardiologist at a hospital in Denmark, and does not represent the views of Denmark as a whole and was suggested by the original post.

Denmark's current levels of infection are so low that they haven't mandated the wearing off them, but they are advised particularly in public transport.

They'll likely mandate them in the near future

Yeah, it gives a long list of recommendations on where one should wear face masks.

Is that the best you've got?

The majority of people in Ireland need to reset, calm down and start reading the data.
I joined boards to try and give a little perspective from the view of an Irish person living in Stockholm. The difference in how people are reacting to the dangers of this virus here in Sweden compared to the majority of people in Ireland could not be greater. People understand the dangers here just as much as Ireland. So why the hysteria in Ireland. Swedish media has relayed a lot of data with regards to covid with very little opinions. The Irish government and RTÉ relay their opinion to frighten the public on a far greater scale than they inform the public on the data collected from around the world.
Sweden have made mistakes, as has every country. But Ireland’s approach is so one sided that’s it’s hard to believe people try to justify every move they make.
I can’t see how Sweden will recover financially from this, especially after agreeing to the covid eu bale out.
Ireland has also agreed to the bale out fund, on top of a potential endless cycle of lockdowns.
People say that Ireland is a wealthy country and can afford to do so. If I didn’t laugh I’d cry when I hear this.

We would hear from a lot more doctors who agree with her if google/Facebook didn’t ban content like that instantly. It’s complete and utter media control of the narrative.

Is it media controlling the narrative that made you decide this Danish man is actually a woman?

What is an expert? To me an expert is someone who is often right in their judgment which gains them said status. The people you call "experts" are people who've been wrong in their estimations of how big the threat actually is, which should at least put a dent in their status as an expert. If we're being frank, "experts" in the modern world are people who are simply willing to push an agenda that suits people in power.

“The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone else. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offense, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

Well I don't know if I'd fully agree with you guys on lock down. When the pandemic hit and no body really knew what we were all dealing with it did seem like the only thing to do and I wouldn't begrudge anybody the €350 per week, though personally I worked hard right through it, though safely from home.

Do not let this idea take hold. We knew enough to make better decisions.

This thread still has value even though there's no prospect of adopting alternative strategies.

Power won't listen, but it's still worth speaking the truth to ourselves.

Can somebody help me out with this one here?

    https://m.independent.ie/irish-news/2500-fine-or-six-months-in-jail-for-not-wearing-a-mask-in-shops-39436127.html

I read the article, then I go to the statue book to find the relevant law(s) but find only the one about masks on public transport. Where is the law that says masks are mandatory in shops?

I don't see anything that's related to what is said in the article.

    Latest ECDC figures:

    14-day cumulative number of COVID-19 cases per 100 000
    United_Kingdom 16.5
    Germany 12.9
    Ireland 16.9

While it is disappointing to see cases increasing, we are now at a point where the risk in Ireland is the same as the UK and higher than Germany.
Hopefully these figures will go down by next week, but if cumulative cases in Ireland remain above the UK and Germany - will both be included in the next green list review?

so WHO recommends wearing a face mask only if you have cough, fever and difficulty breathing...

yet people are asked to wear a mask in shops here. I would like to see the government's research on this. Or they just decided because they think it's a good idea?

And also a point to remember is a lot of the nursing homes were private owned ones.
