Anyone know why Ted isn't there for Sky. He mentioned last week on his notebook that he wasn't around for the next few races.

I wonder if its because they fired him a few years agobut the backlash was so bad and they can only have the budget for some races a year.

Racing point have been deducted 15 points and fined big time.

A 400K fine is nothing relative to the constructors position (prize money) they could end in if they can keep the illegal parts. 15 points is a bigger penalty in such a tight midfield but still light by comparison to the points they could gather over the season with the illegal parts. Very interested to see how they perform this weekend as Stroll was well off the race pace last weekend.

    Great practice session for Hulkenberg.

Let’s hope it’s a sign of things to come in Qualy

The soft tyre this week is only good for around 1-2 laps before degrading significantly. Nobody wants to be stuck on that tyre in the race.

Vettel's car is wrecked. Huge amount of oil leaking and engine looks cooked.

  • I’m not watching. Did he crash?

    Found this

Engine failure it looked like and a lot of oil spewing out of the floor of the car.

Albon saying the C4 soft tyres won't last on the circuit due to high G-forces, and that only the medium C3 and hard C2 will be used for the race.

So if we take what most front starters did last week, was use the C2 in Q2, and start the race on them to go onto harder C1 tyres to the end. There's no C1s this week, so there's going to be a heap of different strategies, maybe even a three stopper if someone used the softest C4 tyres.

I don't think there's that much time difference between the C3 and C4. We'll see what comes of qualy tomorrow in Q2 for the top 10 shootout.

Just reading up that each driver at every races gets 8 soft, 3 medium, 2 hard.

Yeah there's a standard allocation this year for all drivers each weekend. The 8 softs are pretty much useless this weekend, especially for the race on Sunday.

When they are miles ahead in free practice you know there's only going to be 1 winner.

At least Renault look to be improving. Them upgrades must be working which Is good. Ricciardo could be on the podium yet this year maybe even this weekend.

It's a bit mysterious seeing the Renault performance uplift. Looking forward to them in a tussle with both RB and McLaren. Oh, and possibly Racing Point.

I do hope Hulkenberg is not hampered by bad luck. It's about time he got some in his favour.

Hardly any running happening in FP3 so far. I'm thinking teams are conserving tyres for qualy and race.

McLaren saying the softs only last 2-3 laps, and with a race start on heavy fuel, the softs are not ideal. So anyone of the mid field who really wants to get into Q3 will probably have to put a set of softs on, then end up starting in them in the race. Q2 will be very interesting.

Front left on Vettel's looking very bad after 9 laps (soft tyres).

Paul Di Resta commentating on FP3 about Geaoge Russel when he made a small mistake says maybe if he went slower he would not have that happen. No wonder he never got anywhere in F1 because he never bothered to try push but he was also possibly the dullest driver to ever drive in F1 so was no great loss anyway and it seems he is not much better as a commentator either. If there was an award for dull people maybe ge would win one of them.

I actually don't mind him as a commentator. You are correct about everything else but I just like the ex-driver input he and Karun bring to the table.

Doubt it ... RB's still have a higher race pace

    Qualifying will be much closer

Given how hopeless the softs appear to be it'll be interesting what the strategists come up with. I'd say they are all praying for a few safety cars to allow for cheaper pit stops.

They don't even have enough of a pace advantage for their reduced lifespan to be worth it

Could see 15 cars in Q2 on the medium tyres, a poorer car like an Alfa Romeo or Williams could maybe get into Q3 on softs but would still find themselves in the bottom few in Q3, and coming 9/10 on used softs is way worse than 11-15 on a new set of mediums

    Will be an interesting Q2
