Is it just me or is there a tonne of nice cars doing the rounds at the moment?

I'm talking porsche, teslas, BMW M5s

I even passed a lamborghini the last day

Maybe it's just because I'm living on the south side of Dublin

What kind of jobs do these people have? Don't they have bills and kids to rear?

Not that you have to be that rich to drive any of these cars, but there is around 77,000 millionaire's in Ireland, what do all those people work at, do they have kids?

    Teslas aren't that expensive.

Don't see many M5s, the odd Porsche in Castleknock maybe.

So yes, it's because you're on the south side :pac:

Still it begs the question, what kind of jobs are these people working?

201 M5 parked up outside as we speak!

More and more teslas (in recent enough Reg year wise) and more and more chargers outside people's houses I notice

    Even for higher end cars?

    Even for higher end cars?

    Of course.
Most profit for car manufacturers these days comes from their finance arm.

Turn up with a fistful of cash and they would laugh at you, unless your name was Vicious Mc Nasty the Drug Dealer.

    Multinationals, banks, solicitor firms.

Tesla Model 3s cost the same as a 3 series, so they're not on the same level of an M5 or any Porsche.

There were more Range Rover sports than VW Passats sold last in the UK.

In the old days the BMW was the 'posh' car.

Now the likes of BMW, Audi etc are common as muck, and the new BMW is the massive Range Rover.

That's the Dublin First policy if the government. Massive money was poured into Dublin in the hope of kick-starting the economy across the nation but it failed. Now not everyone in Dublin became rich but some, particularly those with the right school tie and party card in their wallet made serious money under Fine Gael and look likely to continue under this coalition. Come outside the M50. There is hardly a 201 car to be seen let along Teslas or Lamborghinis.

Never mind luxury cars, I'm wondering what people do to too afford houses in south Dublin. A couple's combined salary of 100k will only get them a 350k mortgage.

I know that most be some with the salary to buy these properties - but these salaries seem to be well into the high end. So much so that you wouldn't think there was a large market, but the churn would suggest that there is.

In fairness I was on my motorbike and we were stopped at the lights... I took great pleasure in getting off the line quicker than him!

The people you're talking about employ couples earning 100k combined.

Yup, service centres all over are creaming themselves, plenty of future work in the pipeline.

I presume you mean each? I know these couples exist, but it must be a tiny pool of buyers, yet they're is constant churn in €600-700k family homes

List price for a model S before add ons or upgrades is 84,990 for the ‘long range’ specification and 101,000 for the ‘performance’ model.

Seeing a lot more porches then I’m used to seeing, I have a neighbor who is a collector and owns 3 himself. A 171 and two older models a 12 and I forget the other, maybe 08.. About once a month or six weeks I’m seeing a Tesla... keep bumping into the same one out Howth direction... nice car.

Model 3 starts at 50k, and think about how many 3 series and A4s you see on the road.

I think you got that wrong. That is not the earnings of the people driving the cars it is the earnings of the staff they employ. The 600 K or 700 K houses are mostly bought by people using a combination of, the equity in their existing house, inheritance money and the mortgage. They rarely bought by first time buyers.

Why do people buy the Audi? If u look under the bonnet of the equivalent Skoda you'd be sickened you dropped the extra 10-20k for the Audi

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,103 ✭✭✭Claw Hammer

Why do people buy the Audi?

People don't want the stigma of driving a Skoda.

I live in North County Dublin and there are a lot of Teslas around here all of a sudden. Used to be a case of you may see one a week , now they're two a penny.

Doesn't exist anymore really, outside a vague memory. Considered a fine car now.

I think a lot of Audi/BMW look wretched, very conservative. And I drive an audi... although, there's no such thing as a Skoka TT.

I rented a Tesla when I was in the States last year. Goes like the clappers, but has a terribly cheap interior. Wouldn’t buy one myself.

Just seeing it yes. Nice looking car from the outside but the interior is very underwhelming, looks like you are driving a Starbucks. Disappointing really. Compared to the S certainly.
