Screw penalty points - should have his licence taken off him - was actually surprised it wasn't some young fella (didn't look like anyway)

Surprised the white van and two cars in front left the scene so quick having witnessed a serious incident. Surely they should have pulled in up ahead at the lay by/gate and given their details in case of any follow up questions after it became obvious the driver wasn't seriously injured?

Just to be clear, it looks more like he would only get done for careless driving, he was overtaking on a straight road with broken center line, from the video he looked to be speeding and should probably have thought as to why there was a queue of traffic but overtaking in itself wasn't illegal.

Yeah, good observation. It's unlikely he had a sight of where he'd get back in to lane which in itself is a costly, badly calculated, blind overtaking risk & (turned out to be an almost life threatening) mistake.

I guess we're all glad there was no-one else in the car and he walked away. Looking at the video footage and the aftermath imagery I would have expected life changing injuries or worse. Triumphant paean to modern car safety on Honda's behalf.

Thanks to the posters. Looking & learning!!

The speed of the overtake is the issue here, nothing wrong with the overtake itself. The tractor is just as culpable to be honest. You have to give way to cars on the right and look in your mirrors before making a right hand turn.

A friend a number of years ago was found at fault after he took a right hand turn and collided with an overtaking motorbike.

As an aside (and difficult to know without seeing a much larger clip), how long were people stuck behind the tractor? how many opportunities did the tractor have to pull over to allow traffic to progress? How many genuine overtaking opportunities were ignored by drivers in front of the car in the accident? Not the root cause but all contributing factors.

You can fish about all you want but the tractor driver has zero responsibility regarding this incident. It was a stupid overtake and they got their rewards for it.

And before people get affronted by this post, its fairly obvious the overtaking car was being foolish and is ultimately accountable for his actions. Just highlighting that there were multiple factors in this collision.

He has plenty of responsibility. Did he check his mirrors before he signalled? Did he check them again before he turned? It was a straight road and even with the speed of the overtaking car he would have seen the car coming on his right.

If there was no dashcam (showing the excessive speed) he would be found 100% at fault from an insurance perspective.

I think the witness statements from the other cars would count for something.
He was passing out at least 5 cars; I suspect more given the speed he went past the cam car and the delay since the last oncoming car went past.
There was no hard shoulder on either side of the road and he was completely committed to getting past every vehicle in front of him. Madness.

To me it doesn't look like he got on the brakes at all before the crash?
If you're overtaking a line of traffic at that speed you've got to be ready for the unexpected.
Anyone with a brain or experience would wonder, why aren't the cars immediately behind overtaking? What do they know that I don't?
    Overtaker is a 100% f**wit.

You have a lot of questions for the tractor all which could be answered by one question to the car.
Could the car even see the tractor when he started his overtake?

    Multiple factors; yes!
But one factor outweighs all the other factors by a wide margin, reckless overtaking!

    Remember, mirror signal manoeuvre!

So is it safe to assume the tractor driver would have checked his mirror first, then signalled and finally turned. (the car following could verify this)
As it is a slow moving vehicle, he would have signalled well in advance to stop the following traffic from trying to pass him. (long before the twat started to overtake)

He cannot be held accountable for the twat who decides to pass a line of slow moving cars.

As for your previous comment about a friend who was found to be at fault for knocking a motorcyclist off, did he MSM before turning!
