The only thing I'd change would be the interior colour - would much rather the oyster interior to brighten the cabin up.

    Very nice car. Lovely spec.
The used 3 series seems to price the same as the 5 in the U.K./N. I.
As in a used 530d is no more than a 330d.

I see the nice grey 430d In cahir you linked previously is gone.
Used cars are selling well. I read in the paper that used values are up due to lack of supply in our market.

Yeah the grey one didn't hang around long despite the high asking price. I'd say the spec sold it. I think the more restricted access to the UK market probably helped sales of used cars here too.

I taxed my car this week and it's getting new front brake pads (and maybe discs) next week so I'll be keeping it until at least the end of the year anyway. In no hurry to part with it especially if just for the sake of it.

Id say they sourced it for a client and it will be marked as sold as soon as they get their hands on it.
Might be happy enough to take a slim enough margin if they know they are flipping it immediately and offering only an aftermarket warranty.

Why bother advertising if you already have it sold though?
Hedging their bets in case it falls through maybe?

I don’t think there will be any retrospective massive increases in road tax on existing cars but going forward could see the loading of taxes on new diesels and maybe petrol cars too.
With Eamon Ryan the minister for transport though who knows but he will be reined in by the other parties hopefully.

yeah agreed, allowing people to tax most diesel and petrol cars sold here now, for as good as free. Is total idiocy. If they increase existing rates, it would be by an absolute pittance... A total and utter irrelevance financially when you see the depreciation and finance rates... I think it makes sense to wait if you dont need to buy urgently, how much will these start selling for when recession hits properly? assuming we enter recession of course...

I just have to get insurance before May 2021 to keep my NCB so I can wait to see what happens. Still need to fully decide what to get, at the moment I think it'll be some form of 35d but not sure of 5 series or smaller. I'm less concerned now about the tax increases... everything will be affected and I can't see them singling out used diesels

It seems like they don't even know how well specced that car is, they've barely touched on it.

I don’t think they have it sold already.
Did they try to sell you a car at all Wailin
That is get something in for you or did they just want to buy if for stock.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,446 ✭✭✭Wailin

It was bought for stock. They are well known for getting in any car with a specific spec for a buyer. But they just took a chance with mine.

On another note, I just changed my insurance over and got €80 refund which was a nice surprise :)

It’ll go some way towards paying for petrol.
I have a feeling your economy is going to be lower than you’re used to for the first few weeks while you enjoy the engine.

I'm expecting high 20's or low 30's at best with that engine plus the xdrive.

I bet there wont be a massive difference. The 535ds aren't exactly frugal. I think you'll get mid 30s with the 540i

I agree, but the first few weeks I always find you drive more enthusiastically with a new car.

You'd be surprised with the 535d. I was getting 42mpg on motorway spins which is good for a big heavy car with over 300bhp.

Mid 30's with the 540i would be very good, hopefully it's somewhere in that range.

    this car was ex BMW.
Driven by Bob Flavin in his review.
78k new he said at the time. Overpriced in my view but all the car you need
I am not a lover of the black wheels though. They never appeal to me.

You'd want to have your brain checked to pay over 60k for a diesel 3 series estate, in my humble opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,840 ✭✭✭carsfan2

    Totally agree.
I wonder if it will hang around like the infamous 440i until it comes down to sensible money?

I was shocked to be getting 12-14mpg in my 740 when I got it first. A few months later it was sitting around the 18-20mpg mark. Funny that. :pac:

Had an intermittent vibration/shudder under heavy braking for some time and had a suspicion it has a warped disc. Had the car in for new front pads today so had the discs checked. There was a fairly noticeable lip on one of the discs when measured so a new set of discs fitted also. €200 for an OEM disc alone but the vibration/shudder is gone and it feels like a new car.

Off the top of my head I think it was around €800 for front discs and pads from bmw dealers. Some rip off.

That colour paintwork, wheels and tinted windows and touring just doesn't work, at least in pictures. That 330d, while obviously we'll specced, looks terrible. Can't put my finger on it but putting it down to colour combo as I think an msport estate 3 series can look pretty smart with right combinations.

Was this with BM themselves? They misdiagnosed a similar issue I had as "warped disks". They gave me a crazy quote. I got all 4 discs and pads changed and issue stayed. It was the front control arm bushes that were shot that was causing it. They are easy to check as they are oil filled bushes so of they go, you'll see the oil stain that leaked out of them. I would check there too.

Found the quote I got, front brakes only....

Also, my car is now booked in again for egr replacement after getting cleared on inspection last year. I think last year with limited part supply they were only replacing the ones that were failing already. Now that they have the egr cooler stock sorted, they are doing them all.
