    TLC - No Scrubs ; 1999

CHOO-CHOO-CHOON!!! One of the few songs that I know every single word to by heart. Was in sixth class when this came out, and was a big feature of the sixth class discos and parties we had before we all moved on to secondary school. Good times.

    Scroobius Pip - Introdiction ; 2011

Haven't listened to a whole lot of Scroobius Pip, but whenever I've heard him, I've always enjoyed it, and this was no exception. Fantastic lyrics and a nice background beat. Would've liked it a bit more without the backing vocals, but that's just a minor criticism.

In 6th place with 21 points is
    mustang shelly

Belinda Carlisle - Heaven Is A Place On Earth ; 1987

It was in fifth place in the previous round, but just missed out on the top five in this category, unfortunately; still 6th place is a great place to be. I've aleady said how much I love this one, but you can never say it too often. Love it!

    Guns N' Roses - Paradise City ; 1987

The good news is, this is one of the few Guns N' Roses songs I actually like, because most of their stuff I'm familiar with I really don’t have a lot of time for. The bad news is, this was by far the toughest round, so unfortunately even though I like it, it's really hard to put it any higher than this given the overall standard of the round.

5th and getting 22 points is
    Electric Nitwit

Vintage Trouble - Blues Hand Me Down ; 2011

Knew from the first couple of bars that I'd really like this one, great energy, great vocals, really fantastic entry. Initially it was in with a good chance of getting a podium spot, but there was just no beating the four songs ahead of it in the end.

23d and getting 4 points is
    RasTa

Michael Jackson - The Way You Make Me Feel ; 1987

Wouldn't be my favourite MJ track by any means, but it's probably unfortunate to be in such a tough round, because four points just doesn't feel like enough for this one, but such is the nature of the Walrus. Sorry RasTa.

I'll take that, especially given what else has been :)
Cracking tune this. Even better live, as you can imagine (there's a great version on YouTube from Letterman)

Didn't cj maxx submit Something Inside So Strong?

    fixXxer

Nine Inch Nails - The Big Come Down ; 1999

Was lucky enough to see Nine Inch Nails perform live back in '07, one of the best live bands I've seen, and really big fan of this song. Up there with their best stuff.

Yep, sorry. Glitch in the Matrix. RasTa submitted MJ. Edited now.

Quick break before Top 3 and Bottom 3...

Awaiting an outcome are (alphabetically)... beakerjoe, Clarabel, lassykk, osh, the purple tin, and Trigger

As it turns out this was the artist I was going to double up on for the previous round.

In 24th place with 3 points is
    the purple tin

Elmore James - Dust My Broom ; 1951

Enjoyed this one. Got a bit lost in the crowd, and almost had it in last place, but on the final listen it made enough of an impression for me to move it up a couple of spots.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

3rd and getting 24 points is
    lassykk

    Stone Sour - Hesitate (Acoustic) ; 2011

Thought this was great. Glad you went for the Acoustic version, as I found this to be far superior, and allows Corey Taylor's voice to be front and centre and not be drowned out by all the bells and whistles.

Happy enough with that, 7 is my favourite number. Thought I might have went too mainstream. A great choon though, reminds me of college.

Really beautiful voice and a class song.

    :)

    19th and getting 8 points

I'd recommend checking out her album Wounded Rhymes, her other stuff can be hit-and-miss but that one's a really great album from start to finish. Was definitely one of my most listened to albums back in 2011-2012.

I actually saw her live before I even knew who she was, as she was on before Arcade Fire at Electric Picnic back in 2011. And she was good enough to make me check out her stuff after.

25th and getting 2 points is
    Clarabel

    Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie xx ; 2011

I did like this, as I liked the Gil Scott-Heron featured in the last round, but I can't say I'll be rushing to check out anymore of his stuff based on the two tracks I've heard, if I'm being honest. I did enjoy it though, and as if I haven't said it enough already, this was by far the toughest round to score.

In 2nd place with 25 points is
    Trigger

    Adele - Someone Like You ; 2011

I never really appreciated how great a song this was before listening to it for the purposes of Walrus. I knew it, and liked it, but I'd never really just closed my eyes and listened to it. Adele really has a phenomenal voice, and I'm going to properly listen to a couple of her albums after this. On paper, this was down towards the bottom of the pack, but after a few proper listens, it had cemented its place in second.

In 26th place with 1 point is
    osh

Smog - Cold Blooded Old Time ; 1999

Look someone had to be last for this round, and this just happened to be the one that had the least impact on me. I think it's a fine song, and liked it more than a lot of the lower ranking songs in the other rounds, if that's any consolation.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

1st place and getting 26 points is
    beakerjoe

Gerard McMann - Cry Little Sister ; 1987

Had completely forgotten about this song. Hadn't heard it in years. Absolutely delighted to re-discover it again. Once I heard it, there was never any doubt it would be taking the top spot. Everything about it absolutely perfect, especially the eerie backing vocals and the brief yet epic organ solo in the middle. Great choice, thanks for getting it back on my radar.

wow, another great selection of songs!!!!

After the penultimate round, Irish Aris and mustang shelly are both in positioned well to take the crown, but any of the Top 5 could pull out a win yet, so it will all come down to the TV Theme Tunes result tomorrow...

Wow, I didnt expect that.. missus is a huge adele fan so she does be on in the house all the time. Shes fantastic. We were supposed to go see her in Wembley in 2017 and she cancelled the gig the week before because of her throat.. pregnant OH was distraught. Not a great trip to London that was. :pac:

We're almost there, final round to go tomorrow. Should be at the same bad time on the same bad channel, but will confirm earlier tomorrow when I reveal if any bonus points will be in play.

Don't know the song and haven't hit play yet but just for the album cover alone it deserves top five at least.

Yep, it's not only a battle for the top spot, but a fight for the wooden spoon, as well as a mid-table melee for final placements.
