I know a town where only one out of four is planning to reopen, one already has a for sale sign up. Same story all over the country. Tourist traps will be the only places where there won’t be mass casualties. Only 50% planning to reopen on the 29th. That’s a lot of jobs permanently removed from the economy by bat flu hysteria.

Bat flu hysteria?

It’s probably just as well in the long run if less pubs resume trading. It could help deter folks killing off more of their brain cells, when they’re apparently at a pretty low count in the first place.

You might want to educate yourself before dismissing COVID-19 so casually in favour of lamenting job losses in pubs. What a tool.

Only half are reopening cause only half do food . The majority of rest will reopen on July 20 . Although some probaly will never open again . Mainly the ones that were doing little trade pre Covid .

Job losses are never good but less pubs would be net positive for the nation. They are a crutch for many who might find a better use of their time & money going forward.

Good.
While it won't do much to improve the current mobs of shambling alcoholics in the country, it will hopefully reduce the time they spend rampaging around the streets when all worthwhile people are trying to sleep, and will reduce the impression being handed to the next generation that this self-destructive and socially destructive behaviour is "cultural", "normal" or "acceptable".

Pubs aren't allowed to reopen on the 29th.

Restaurants and cafes are allowed on the 29th. Pubs are 20 July.

We can just import pubs from England.

They have loads of them, with real ale pumps and fruit machines and everything.

Only problem is they have different opening hours. We'd adapt fairly quickly though, I reckon.

Only 50% opening on the 29th?
That's pretty good,in my town there are about 25 pubs,none are opening on the 29th that I know of.A few(2 i know of)that are restaurant type set ups are opening from the weds/thurs.
One is closed (owner wanted out anyway) and the rest will be opening during pint week from the 20th July on.

Am I right in saying that a pub can open on 29th only if they serve food?

If that's the case then the pubs that don't serve food can't open. Some pubs that can serve food may take a wait and see approach or wait until all pubs can open.

I think it's too early to call it. It will take a few months.

People who were in the twilight of their lives anyway and a lot in nursing homes that the gov did absolutely nothing to protect. Sad yes of course but no reason to sabotage the economy the way they did. The suicide figures alone for this year will make for sobering reading.

Mr healthy can run on the road & resistance train at home.
My kickboxing coach always maintained you could train in a phone box if you had to with no equipment.... An extreme view but a decent viewpoint.

Gyms are reopening BTW for the mostpart.

Between 2005 and 2018 there were 1500 pub closures. Myriad of reasons but the industry is in decline.

pubs and hotel bars operating as restaurants

Lockdown also protected those with underlying conditions..... If you'd cystic fibrosis you'd not relish a battle with covid19.

I think covid has changed the face of lots of things we took for granted. Pubs,(which have social distancing i can't see working nevermind the time allowed in the pub) face masks (on public transport,) shopping (no browsing). I think the future for many businesses will be challenging.

Yes but they'd have to act as restaraunt,retrain staff,change the layout,organise menus,a booking system etc and then charge €9 for the beans on toast.
Or they wait the 3 weeks til pubs are permitted to open.

Cobble together a “restaurant”, packet of nightlights and some napkins should do the trick, promote a staff member to “chef”. Buy a toasted sandwich maker and a large saucepan.
