They're a great diesel, and that one is the 120bhp, so the tax is only 390 p.a.

What's the 180hp one like, the ttid engine are they any good?
Like the look of the saab I'm just unsure of how reliable they are

Might just have a look at this! Anything to look out for if I did?

The petrol ones had issues with fuel gauge sensor, not sure if it affected the diesel, but make sure the fuel gauge works.

Check for play in the steering, as sometimes the universal joint below the steering column can have slight wear and make the steering feel like there is slight play in it. Not a huge issue and not huge to fix, but just see if there is play in the steering at all.

Listen for knocks in the rear. The rear bump stops are a common wear issue. Not huge money to fix, but will explain any noise or rattles. Also, front droplinks can go fairly frequently. only about 10 or 15 quid to replace, but can make a car rattly on front.

Look along the front of the engine and there is a steel coolant pipe (no idea who decided to use steel instead of rubber) and these can rust quite badly. Pig of a job to do if it they need changing.

Apart from that, there very few items to look out for. Some of them can have slow or sticky seatbelts, or the seatbelt latch needs an extra push in to lock.

Price wise, you should be trying to get it for around 1500. I bought a 2008 one last year (150bhp diesel) for a grand, but it did need a few bits which I knew at time of buying, so i spent around 300 euros sorting those.

I never drove the twin turbo one, so not sure on those, but the 120bhp and 150bhp diesel is a great engine once kept serviced. They go on forever and do huge mileage too and easy get parts for the engines as they are the Fiat/Alfa/Opel/Vauxhall 1.9 diesel unit.

    Help please Bangerbuds! :D

My daughter is driving a Fiat Grande Punto and has decided to move to a saloon car and the BMW has caught her eye.
She is looking at E90 1.6 models as she wants a bigger engine, but 1.6 max. She does very very little driving. About 10 miles a day max and might use it on the weekend to come back home (around 50 or 60 mile round trip)

I know they are the **** end of BMW's and underpowered, but not an issue as she is only driving a year or two and not interested in power
So, is there anything in particular to look out for on these?

Just had a thought, are auctions a good source of a bangernomic? Forgot they existed because of this covid stuff.

Toyotafanboi of this parish recently bought an Auris from Merlin auctions, in bangernomics budget I believe, but generally I'd say they're probably not the best places to go looking. Fees can be high and you're buying unseen at the minute

As is often the case, it’s actually 3 owners. Nice car for small money

Somebody is getting a Chinese! :D
900 quid for that is amazing with NCT and all and knowing you won't meet a single one anywhere else on the roads!

I have had this for about 4 years with no trouble cost me 1200 then now for sale at 800, going with a good bit of tax, one of the best bangernomics cars I've had and fun to drive, I bought a 2008 one this time for 1250 with full leather etc so hopefully will serve me well!

    2.5 manual S40 T5, NCT til September, same owner since 2006, €1150

This is a bit of a curiosity; 2004 is very early for one of these. I didn't realise they were available in this trim/engine either. Looks like it could be a very nice buy for the money

And there it is again for the prestige price of €4000

Oh man weapons. Ultimate Diesel sleeper.

So long as the turbos are in good order - for €150 an ECU remap will take it to 240hp.

My buddy has one and it will give the aero 2.3 petrol a run for the money. His is mapped a few years and runs sweet. Usual Dpf crap but as is with all diesel from that era.

There was a lovely example a few pages back, looked lovely.

Once you find a local Saab specialist you are sorted.

Owning a Saab isn’t expensive, and not hard to find parts. It’s a massive club to be part of and nice mature one at that.

Saw that Seicento earlier alright. Looks great initially, but there's something odd about the photos the more I look at it. Could be the photos themselves, but almost looks like a car with very peculiar dents or marks has just been sprayed over, or maybe I just haven't had enough coffee yet!!

Cheers for the reply would love to get a 9-3 180 only problem i see is the ones that appear do have high mileage upwards of 180k miles.

I'd love to take a gamble regardless though as I never considered them an option.

Looks suspiciously like the return of our friends again. Bears all the hallmarks of the ones that were going up on a daily basis a couple of months back.

    Newer than 2008
    Low price
    Diesel
    Stupidly low mileage
    No car reg shown

    Classic insurance?

Then he says a future classic.

Just had a removable full respray?

Not the kind of guy you'd be trusting when he tells you the timing belt and water pump were replaced.
