When we built our timber frame in 2005 ESB installed a 12KVA supply. Our gas boiler is reaching end of life and we have decided to replace it with an A2W heat pump.
We are going with the Samsung 9KW unit.
Will our ESB supply be sufficient? We have all the normal appliances but a gas hob.
    Thanks.

Do you have an electric shower?

No electric showers. We have a pressurised DHW loop.

Its generally recommended to have the upgraded supply with a heat pump but since you dont have any high electricity consumers you will probably be ok. The installer will dictate that to you anyway when they assess your house.

Just for clarity, the 9kW is not what it uses. Its what it puts out. It will use ~2kW when running so you still have ~10kW to spare for the rest of the house.... which is why I asked the electric shower question as that would use that full 10kW on its own and then you would definitely need the upgraded supply.

If you add an electric shower or an electric car etc in the future you will need a priority switch for those or the upgraded supply.

Thank you very much. I had thought incorrectly that it used 9kW!
