I'd have the 280 Veloce over the stinger, 38k including VRT

    I'd take the M3 over the 440i

Did you try trade against the M3 in Kildare...wonder what the cost to change would be. It's a stunning looking car.
Contacted that chap a few weeks ago and without seeing my car he said it's worth around €23k, which I reckon would improve if he saw the car as it's immaculate. Compare that to Bolands . I love the colour of that particular M3 too, but those CC brakes would put me off and also probably mean the car was tracked a lot.

Are you tempted? It seems reasonable tbh .....
It's certainly an option, but it's just too low really. Another €2k and I'd be in.

    Nice Stinger petrol here:

Downside is the €1200 a year in tax v €750 on the 440i. Would it depreciate any worse than a BMW? 6 years remaining on the Kia warranty though, plenty of family space and rare as feck. Might make a nice left field alternative to that 440i Wailin?

Cheers bazz it is certainly a left field alternative and it has great styling. Surprisingly not that fast for a 365bhp car though, looking at the specs  Stock 535d would be a good bit quicker which surprised me.

That's lovely alright. I know it's probably a misconception now at this stage, but I'd be very nervous with that car out of warranty...BMW's have a bad rep too, but I find if they are looked after then they are pretty reliable.

Replacement carbon brakes on the M3 would be €18k according to one of the guys on bmwhaus who did the sums on it, crazy money

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,445 ✭✭✭Wailin

Yep, 10k alone for front discs

I'm surprised too, maybe it's down to the Stinger's weight? Probably more designed for the US market than taking on quick German saloons. In saying that I'd say even the 440i feels a bit slower than your 535d, less torque on tap and only a single turbo. The bar is fairly high.

That's the problem with M cars, as well as buying one you need deep pockets to keep them going. I certainly would not buy a M car without the 2 year BMW used car warranty, worth every penny. The 440i is a less riskier proposition when it comes to running costs sitting in between the run of the mill stuff and the full blown M cars.

Certainly, yes. But a totally different experience with the 7000 rpm compared to 5000 in the diesel. You're waiting for it to change down but it just keeps going and going. God knows what 9000 rpm feels like in the E92 M3 :pac:

That price has been on that car since the turn of the year. Also those photos don't do the interior much justice, it's nicer in the flesh. Maybe not up to some Germanesque interiors but I wouldn't say it's any worse than a 4 Series interior.

Any worse than a 4 Series?? Since when were they so bad!
And yes the Kia is a lot worse.

You never gave us a review of driving the 440i.
Does it feel quick or just different to the 535d? How’s the adaptive ride?

Re. The Kia, I think they are an imposing car alright and better looking in the metal but the price of the 2018 one should begin with a 3 really and you would find it harder to move on than a 440i.

Would you consider the offer on the 535 as it would give you opportunity to buy from U.K. or NI?

The only good experience with Bolands was the test drive. Junior sales guy brought me on a good variety of roads after I told him I wanted a decent drive to get a feel for the car.

I have the adaptive dampers in my F10 too and they are nice, but in the 4 series I think they are compulsory. I drove a 430d before on stock M sport suspension and it was quiet trashy over the rougher roads. With the adaptive, put it in to comfort and it's great on bad roads. Back in to sport on the good twisty roads and the car felt lovely and sharp with very little lean in the corners.

I absolutely loved the sports seats with the adjustable bolsters. You can move them in to grip you more in the seat, a nice touch. I wasn't mad on the digital display, prefer analogue. I noticed a slight bit of lag in the display too. A lot of people moan about the handbrake in the 3/4 F series, but I actually liked having the old manual handbrake back again.

The 535d is certainly quicker, and the 440i could never match the torque and shove in the chest you get from acceleration from low speeds. But the traction warning was blinking at me a few times in the 440i (much to the dismay of the sales rep :pac:), even though it was a dry road. You floor it and there's a nice growl from the engine, not too much drama at first. But it's just relentless and keeps going and going with no let up or drop in power you get from a big diesel engine. I had a big stupid grin on my face while your man was twitching nervously beside me :pac:. It's just a nice change from the torquey diesel experience.

22 seconds in and you get an idea of the car.

The Stinger is a weird one. I drove one for a week and it got a serious amount of attention from the public, many asked what the hell it was. For something with the same power as an E46 M3, it didn’t feel anywhere near as manic as the BMW. A cruiser more than anything, even the noise from it seemed reserved for a V6.

That M3 up in the north is cracking. Pity its 17k to vrt. Absolute criminal for revenue to look for that.

Annual tax for it up north is £300 too. €1800 here....sickening really.

Quite a common sight when I was on my travels in Australia. I believe the highway patrol over in Queensland use them also. I like what Kia are trying to do but I wouldn't be not keen on the styling, just looks too long or stretched.

€1200 I think for the M3. Just checked there on motortax.ie
    I assume the 440i is €570.

    440i is €750.

I've a nice orange M4 for sale cheaper than the 440i you're looking at, taxed for the year, BMW warranty and you'd fit 2 kids in the back no problem :D

No it's 1800 for all m3/m4 f80/f82. That's an error on that one.

Edit: sorry top dog and carsfan are right, 1200. I've been looking at so many cars lately...

Saw the ad and she's a beaut. M3 is more suitable for me if I was going down the M route!

:D All joking aside, an M2 competition is the car I'd have in my driveway if I didn't need a bigger car.

Same, I’d have one over any other BMW if I could afford one.

M3 seems logical so if you hanker after m2.
Would you try to haggle on M3 in the north?
Just coming out of lockdown they might be more interested in a deal than previously.
If you could get a good bit off might make selling to trader of your own more acceptable.

No call back since the other day. I won't deal with them unless I sell my own or they get back with a much better offer. I was offered €21k for mine on donedeal from a trader. Even that is about €3k better than Bolands. I'm going to wait and see what happens, certainly not rushing into anything with them that's for sure.

They're probably reading this thread :pac:

Is €21k not a very fair offer from a trader? He'd prob retail it for what, €24k? Better than any trade in you get i suspect and you'll be in a much better position to do a deal with cash in your paw.

That's my thoughts also ......... anyone offering that or more on a trade in is just playing with margin on what they are selling to you IMO.
A trader has to stand over the thing so they are being nothing but fair at €21k IMO.
Can't see many private buyers paying much more then 21k for a 535 privately when the likes if this is about.....

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/bmw-5-series-535d-m-sport-313-bhp-auto-huge-spec/24145752

BMW 5 Series 535d M-sport 313 BHP Auto huge Spec
    €26,950

I know there's 6k between €21k and that asking of course.
