First thing that came to mind upon hearing this news was the the ex-met police commander who was on skyn news all the time, at the time

He was adamant they had nothing to do with it and rubbished all theories pointing to them

I wondered whether he would be proved right or wrong, his name eludes me

I'm not going back through the thread, but someone did and got Thanks if I recall correctly. They may have said it wasn't abnormal, but that implies normal.

Jim Gamble seems about the best on it but I don’t think you mean him. Is there an Andy something?

Yes. I think all they are guilty of , really, is being a bit odd , and awkward , at a time in their lives when they should have been protected from the glare of publicity .
They made a terribly stupid mistake which cost them their daughter's life and their lives too , in effect.
The media have savaged them , but they have used it too , albeit to seach for their child
Doesn't make up for the hideous stuff written about them.

I thought the British tabloids were on the side of British citizens who were victims of crime abroad, to be honest. That's what makes the libelling of Kate and Gerry by the Daily Express and other papers difficult to comprehend.

    Disregard Thanks from all posts.

Saying something is not abnormal does not mean it is normal practise. I think you are do a bit of tabloid journalism.

So you agree nobody said it was normal?

There are plenty of UK citizens who the press are certainly not on the side of, and they're not even tainted the way the McCanns were for their behaviour. You only have to look at Daily Mail online for live examples. The red tops pandered to it being them, and used their headlines to cause suspicion on them during their arguido stage, every day. You mustn't have seen the papers back then if you don't recall it. They swung between it being the McCanns one day, and then the portuguese police being keystone cops, penduluming like a punch and judy show - the press are on no one's side except what sells.

I'm sure the media would have gone after the person who actually carried out the abduction if that person were found, but given that such a person has not yet been found, and given that the tabloids love to point the finger, the next step down the totem pole was the McCanns and their negligence to at least lock the patio door.

The first guy who was arrested by the incompetent Portugese police got his life pulled apart as well by the press. Can't think of his name, from what I remember his only issue was he came out to help translate from English for the family. One of the cops watched CSI and decided it had to be someone who would involve themselves in the case.....

    Robert Murat?

Yeah, he once again proved the old saying, "No good deed goes unpunished..."

Robert Murat . It was a British journalist who first reported him to the police because she found him over zealous and pushing himself forward

PS . Lori Cambell was her name

Puerto de lulz seems to have had a crazy amount of Peodeophiles in their area including a holiday home of Clement Freud which the McCanns visited after disappearance. Freuds family deny Freud was there at that time, yet Kate describes the visit in her book

    https://closeronline.co.uk/real-life/news/madeleine-mccann-police-investigating-sir-clement-freud/

The Clement Freud connection is really creepy and as you say Praia de Luiz had a reputation for paedos living in the area. Paedophile rings where all members co-operate and share information on targets are not uncommon, we have had a few here in Ireland

Case of Cythia Owens in Dalkey, sexually abused and raped by her own parents who then prostituted her out to a paedophile ring operating locally. Two members of the ring are alleged to be Gardai. She fell pregnant at the age of 11 and her mother murdered the baby with knitting needles. The same Gardai who were members of the ring never properly investigated the murder
    https://www.broadsheet.ie/2016/01/12/a-dalkey-archive/

Case of a 22 strong paedophile ring operating in Donegal. Members included a priest and a teacher. Victim who was 13 years old at the time reports that her personal diary shows she had sex 57 times with 22 different men over a 6 month period. A convicted English paedo William John Paden from Blackpool in the UK travelled to Donegal too and was sexually abusing her, he was arrested here in 2010. This shows that paedo rings can even co-operate internationally
    https://www.broadsheet.ie/2016/01/12/a-dalkey-archive/

Both links are long reads but reading through them gives you an insight into how these rings operate. They get a vulnerable child groomed and then pass them around the ring.

So when I read about the paedo Clement Frued, a wealthy individual and former MP and then about several other paedos coincidentally all living close to each other geographically it makes you wonder was Madelines abduction highly planned and executed by a local paedophile ring.

Yeah maybe it was as simple as that alright.
The thing that goes for the mccanns is that they wouldn't have got away with it in the long run i suppose.

She said he reminded her of Ian Huntley ( having never met Huntley in her life) we can say that but a journo to say it is crazy. He got something like 600k for it but should of got in the Millions, they destroyed Robert Murat.

If it was Freud and a Gang like that then you’d question the Mc Canns or you look at Frued befriending them and using them to get a kick out of it. Did the police know about Frued at the time I wonder and if so did they investigate why the parents were in contact with him. So many questions so little answers.

Maddie telling her parents why didn't you come when Sean and I were scared and crying last night ( they were too busy getting pissed ) looking alot more important now

Seems the poor baby probably did see her abductor that night scoping the place out and that scared the life out of her

Saddest thing is she told her useless parents that morning and they did it again that night, rest is history

    All for a glass wine

    Sad

They only arrested him after Jane Tanner positively identified him as being the man she saw walking away from the apartments carrying a child. Just a few days before she claimed the man had untidy hair down to his neck and she didn't see his face clearly. Murat had short, well kept hair.
Jane would later bizarrely claim that she panicked because she thought the police were trying to kidnap her for some unknown reason.

The fact that you are even referring to her as Maddie shows how little you actually know about the case.

Were the kids crying the night before? Was Kate asked about her whereabouts while they were crying? Why were they left alone again after that?

You got to love these types of posts with so much wrong you don’t know which bit to correct :-)

Yet these types of stories are constantly repeated ad nauseam

Wow. That their 3 year old daughter made a comment to them like that but it meant nothing to them. They never would have thought of it again they said. How could that not be affected by not being there for their child. The next night they did the exact same thing and left them while they were doing important stuff, eating and drinking with their pals.

    Watch the vid

    It was close enough

Where were you when I cried

    Maddie to her parents

    They were in the pub

    Not really, it is sad

Especially with all the info coming out now of place being scoped out etc

Reminds of that film " Man On Fire " where the little girl was kidnapped

But Maddie didn't have a father figure like Denzel to protect/save her

Are you not sickened by the video? They basically stated that their 3 year old daughter crying meant nothing to them.
