    Can anybody recommend a good Belgian beer with around 4-5% ABV

    Any particular style?

    Hoegaarden (4.9%) is a nice, refreshing wit beer. Good for this current weather we're having.

    A lot of the Kriek style beers are around 3.5-5% as well.

    St Bernardus Extra is around at the moment. Lots of Chouffe-like Belgian character and only 4.8% ABV.

    I get blinding headaches from wheat beer, I'll check out the Kriek beers.

    Might not be what you want to hear but Kriek beers tend to be brewed with wheat as well...

    Without veering into medical advice territory, if the problem has been with German weissbiers the issue is more likely to be with their particular yeasts than with the wheat.

    Mescan is a Mayo brewery who make Belgian style beers. The Malts, hops and yeast for the beer come from Belgium.

    Am a big fan of their Westport Blond beer (5.5%).
