I've never played a CIV game, they look fairly slow moving and boring, am i missing out?

Turn based empire building. It's ok in terms of slow game play. Free is free either way. I've always found it gets annoying once you expand to a certain point and it become work trying to keep track of everything.

If you have it on steam, is there cross play allowed for those who buy it on epic?

I signed up to Epic to get Civ VI for free, but I'm still in two minds as to whether I'll actually play it or not.

It's not wildly different, it can definitely drag on a bit in the late game, but the fact that you can only have one unit per tile instead of stacks means you don't have the issue of moving stacks of 50 tanks all over the place so there's a bit less micromanagement there.

I'd definitely recommend it, it's an excellent game. It's better with the expansions which you'll probably end up spending money on if you do play it though.
