    There have been some posts in this forum asking for NOS dealer stickers or scans of stickers for reproduction. I very much get the desire for "paraphernalia" that would have come with a car when it was new. Is it usual to have this interest or just plain weird. I'm talking about the likes of rear window stickers, keyrings, tax disc holders, number plate surrounds and so on. Do main dealer parts depts get people coming in to them looking to see if they have a NOS tax disc holder from 1985 with an old phone number and logo on it. .

    If you imported a car from the UK that was missing paraphernalia would you leave it as, try to get Irish dealer stuff for it or try to get stuff related to the garage in the UK that supplied it.

    On our 'modern' cars here I take all dealer stickers and so on straight off. Having said that, they are originally UK cars but I'd do the same with an Irish car. Does anyone remember the adhesive badges a Mitsubishi dealer used to stick on their cars? Westbrook I think or something like that. Sh1te looking.

    I prefer the 'factory' look.

    Yep, Westbrook. Always think anything beyond a window sticker is taking a liberty. Frank Keane VW put a vinyl sticker with their website address across the back window, pretty much everyone does number plate surrounds, other dealers still do badges, branded mud flaps used to be a thing back in the day too.

    Everything gets taken off my cars. I’m not advertising for them :)

    For an older car though, the little details that trigger memories only add to the nostalgia.

    Some classic car owners make a career from collecting them. I just bin em

    or leave them in, not really bothered either way.

    As for collecting them to put on any of my classics, I couldn't be bothered with that

    The odd bit is nice if it's on the car, but I wouldn't really go looking. When we bought a 72 beetle for full restoration about 10 years ago (actually used to be in a boardsie's family in the 80's) it came with an old Church & General tax disc holder. That's now back on it as a period touch.

    I agree totally about modern cars with the branding slapped on them... It's way overdone.

    I like the original stickers on a car , I have a 1975 car with the original garage sticker on it still in perfect condition wouldn’t touch it for a million euro ,

    I have another car that I made a sticker for with an Opel dealer as a friends father was an Opel dealer in the 70s and I thought it would be a nice homage to him for her as he has passed ,

    The amount of people that have commented on the sticker at rally’s /runs you would not believe ! I bought my first car from him or wasn’t he up there by such and such so it’s a nice bit of fun and a conversation starter except it’s on a ZV reg so it looks all wrong but who cares !

    ps I am in graphics industry so I could do this myself ,

    People collect everything now to do with automobilia it’s a big business, a lot to do with American pickers and programmes like that

    Bottom line is , if you have an interest in it collect it , won’t do any harm and the finding is half the fun !

    I think it’s nice to have period items with a car - they’re part of its history.

    There was a time when I wouldn’t leave Dealer stickers, etc on a car. But nowadays I generally leave such items alone (unless they’re large or gaudy! Then I remove them and put them in the car’s history folder)

    I have a ‘78 classic and have actively looked for period items to go with the car..incl dealer items for the garage walls.

    I had some period dealer stickers made up too.

    I can all get a bit addictive once you start! lol

    Any car i buy has the dealer stickers, number plate surrounds or anything else related to the dealer removed. I pay them enough for the car, they don't pay me to advertise their business. When i bought my most recent car i had to wait a few days before taking delivery, money was paid, everything signed and sealed, so when i came to collect it i brought new number plates with me and handed the sales rep the plates they put on the car and their stickers, needless to say he was surprised. The plates in this case were the type where the dealer name is also printed onto the plate. Some myth does exist apparently that if you are trading in a vehicle with no dealer identification you don't get as much as you would if there was.

    I have a 1926 Fiat with a 'period' label stating that the car was supplied by the Fiat Motor Co. (Ire) of South Anne St, Dublin.
    That alone would add value to the car, as buyers of old cars like to see things like this.

    Something from 100 years ago fine, most dealers of that era are long gone. I’m one about a modern heap of junk. I like seeing dealer stickers from those around before my time alright

    If it was a simple dealer sticker in the back window, I probably wouldn't be too bothered. This is the abomination I took off the missus's car last year. An obnoxious looking thing.

    no problem with dealer stickers but see a trend of dealers putting their website across the back window which is too much imo.

    There are no plates with dealers name on them: they're illegal. That's why they moved to surrounds .

    I was rooting through some boxes of floppy disks and found a Joe Mallon tax disk holder that was fitted to new cars circa 1994. I doubt that there is much interest in things like this especially since it is relatively recent. However these things are probably some of the first dealer items to get binned. First time the car goes to an independent garage or gets its windscreen replaced, the holder is likely to go.

    The type described where there is an additional lip at the bottom of the plate still exist, not all dealers do surrounds.

    They are technically illegal (or at least they don’t meet the standards) but they’ve been around for decades and will pass an NCT

    I've been hmming and hawing about getting a Hibernian holder made up for the Carina. I'm insured with the successor and managed to get a hold of some "Hibernian Aviva" ones. But the old gammy "Hi" logo now would really set her off.

    That Joe Mallon yoke would look great in a R19.

    It was originally fitted to a R19 and IIRC was taken out and saved by me around the time the NCT was introduced.

    I had a slightly newer yellow Joe Mallon one on one of our cars as well but that got binned when it went in for a service.

    Also - tax discs themslves, nice to see IMO and likley to get discarded. Getting into really anoraky/old giffer stuff here but if you know the correct colours for an old disks you could make a fake one up for a show etc.
