Looking for recommendations for a company to build a high quality website, preferably a company that has a good professional photographer that they use on a regular basis. I would like to keep it local if I can so, Galway city or county please.

    Yes.

Site builders don't go out and take good quality, relevant photos. Etc.

    Yes.

He could take his own photos, even a high end smart phone will take excellent photos nowadays and loads of people have DSLRs sitting at home too.
Also whatever about quality if a person doesn't know what photos are relevant for their own website then they should probably forget about it as they wont be in business long.

Website designers love to charge crazy rates for stuff you could do a very decent job on yourself never mind what they will charge for taking photos too. Fine if you want to spend it but you could make a very decent job for a fraction of the cost doing it yourself.

I built my own sites for over 10 years. I'm pretty handy with it BUT I decided f*ck it. It's too much of a time drain and I noticed my main site's performance had slowed way down due to changes the host I was using made.

    I suggest Riabro:

I switched to them, they did an excellent job. I can share some of their work by PM if you'd like.

Replace "website designers" with "restaurants", or "plumbers" or....eh, I think you get the point.

I don't really get your point no, as others have pointed out on the thread doing up a website is fairly straight forward with the template softwares etc available when it's likely a small business or hobby site also. I've seen one person who wanted a small hobby website done being quoted I think either 250 or 500 euro a day possibly more and it would be 2 weeks work or something like that (cant remember the exact figures).

Different if its a large corporation website etc.

The OP specifically says a high quality website.

I've now built a good few sites. On most of them the information quality is high, but the design and technology platform is at best mehhhh. Fine for some side gigs. Not for a full time business, or even a design oriented side gig.

That's why companies still exist to do this stuff.

    Ok then, you said:
Fine if you want to spend it but you could make a very decent job for a fraction of the cost doing it yourself.

My response to that was simply that such an attitude applies to many facets of life.

In the given example of the "restaurant", well I could cook at home, spending a fraction of what I would in a quality restaurant - it wouldn't be the same but I'd certainly "make a very decent job" of it. Similarly, I could make a website for my pet project all on my lonesome, however if I wanted a "high quality website" as per the OP's request, I definitely would weigh up the kind of quality I can achieve vs what someone else can provide.

Hope this clears it up for you, if not then no harm and best not to worry about it.

As Bumble said, OP is asking for high quality.

The biggest gain from using a web developer will be that they can design much better than most, they can handle search engine optimization and performance tuning, they can help with the security side of the site (extra important if selling through the site) and or getting and storing viewer info.

If you're serious about your site, find a good dev and pay for it. It's worth it.

Bit late to the party here but I thought I'd chip in that Aró out in Furbo seem to do nice stuff.

From their website it looks like they specialise in websites for hotels but they have a portfolio of designs on their website. To me, I would describe the designs as high end.
