Hi all, stupid question...are wind deflectors typically a style thing or something smokers add onto their car after they buy it, or something else? would you read anything into it on used cars?

Wind deflectors on a car i was interested in would be a red flag for me, the modern day furry dice or steering wheel cover.

Maybe it's someone who likes to drive with their windows down.
For me not a biggie, but I'd probably remove them.

I always drive with my window down a bit, that's why I use them.

If you're concerned about smokers, then just smelling the interior and look at the ceiling carpet will tell you a lot more than whether there are deflectors or not.

Personally I tend to always fit wind deflectors on my cars. I don't smoke, nor allow smoking in my car, but it allows me to leave the windows on the car open a small bit when it's parked up overnight without the risk of rain getting in, to let fresh air circulate around it. Or if I'm waiting in the car, I can leave the window open a tad when it's raining without getting wet.

As a general rule of thumb, depending on the car, I think they can look nice.

I hate the look of them on a car personally and would insist they be removed if I was buying the car. If the car smells like an ashtray then I wouldn't buy it so removing the deflectors wouldn't even come into play.

Wouldn't read into it at all tbh unless the car stinks of fags!

Haven't had a car in yonks without them - some factory, some not love them - great for leaving the window down a crack at night and for a bit of fresh air on a rainy day in an aul dirtbox with no a/c.

Pajero ones are my favourite, you can have the window the whole way down on a rainy day and never get wet :pac:

I always put them (smoked spec) on German saloons cos they looked good (back in the day!) plus yes you can leave the windows cracked open reducing buffeting and leave a window cracked open when away and it won't be noticed.

They’re extremely naff. Particularly on rear windows on a 5 door. Very “Halfords special”.

I don’t think they do the window motors or frames any favours either. You’re effectively wedging a piece of plastic into the frame which is designed to accommodate only the glass.

On an Avensis, Passat or Mondeo I just move on to next Ad.
On something like a Picasso, etc I wouldn't be put off.

A disproportionate amount of them are sold to tosspots.

I got them as a present when I bought the car. I usually wouldn't bother but I think they go well. I like that they don't stand out too much giving the car is black.
