    From some random website....

In Grimes' first tweet since the baby, her first child, was born, she confirmed her son's name, explaining each individual element and what it means to the couple. "X, the unknown variable," she tweeted. "Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)."

"A-12" is an military airplane reference, Grimes (real name Claire Boucher) explained. The Lockheed A-12 is a now retired reconnaissance aircraft built for the CIA in the 1960s. "No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent," Grimes tweeted. The aircraft was known as Archangel during development, according to the BBC—and "Archangel" also happens to be Grimes' favorite song, she added.

    God help the poor child!

There's a want in the pair of them. I mean sweet Jesus what are they at ?

I'd pronounce Niall like Nye-ill, not Neil.

    That's even worse. Pretentious bollocks.

You have to question the mental state of the units that bore the poor child.

I can't think of any culture or language where it might be an actually common name. I'm in the Middle East in a melting pit of expats but even at that...I couldn't get my head around it.
And I'm a soccer coach so I would regularly use the word play to get the kids to start their exercise and it was terribly confusing.

Just saw a woman on Facebook post a picture of her new tattoo with her son's name on it ... Matthiew.

Not sure if that's actually how she spells his name, or if the tattoist got it wrong and she hasn't noticed yet ... either is possible. :o

someone once told me to call your kid and keep the spelling of the little gifts you can get with names on it
like key rings, mats, door signs etc

My lads when they were young used to love going up to these stands and finding their names on things and buying them

Also at Xmas my wife always got them a little Santa for the tree with their name on it off the shelf, different ones each year

There is one I would say for every year since 1 to 18

That's true because the parents never even learnt how to spell the name.
When spelt properly it's a lovely name and has a great story behind it.

A video popped up on my Facebook of a young boy getting dreadlocks at the hairdressers. Wasn’t impressed with the final results but looked at the comments and he’s one of a family of 10 and the mam has a YouTube page. They live in a forest in Finland. Didn’t catch all the names but there’s a Leonardo, Shakespeare, Romeo, Nefertiti Butterfly, Jerusalem, Cleopatra and Omega. Oh, and the kid getting the dreads is D’Artagnan. All lovely looking kids in fairness.

I know a Sorcha that pronounces in Sore- sha and someone who goes by Sore- kah but I went to a Gaelscoil and knew lots of Sorchas who pronounced it Sur- ih- kah.

I knew a few Sorchas in my school days in the 60's and all pronounced it
    Sor a ka

Yes, but I would have thought that 'Sore- sha' is closer to the pronunciation of Saoirse than Sorcha.

People see the 'ch' and assume it's pronounced as in church or chablis.

Can't understand the hate for Irish names.

People don't hate Irish names in general. They hate the ones that have been ruined through adoption of them by posh dubs.

How do you ruin a name?

By saying them in a posh Dublin accent.

It's a joke thread in After Hours. I wouldn't overthink things.

Mercedes, I loved the name when I read the Count of Monte Cristo..... now all I think was conceived in the back of a car. The car was named after one of Daimler friends daughter..... now look at it.....poor child.

Head wrecking names to pronounce properly.

Bosco is another name I hate, not sure though if it really exists as a real name, or if it's just an urban myth or joke name?
