As an aside, a lot of people are voting for 'Friends' as a top sitcom.

I found it about as funny as having the car break down on a wet day.
Just as many, if not more have it in the worst. I still think people are treating this poll like it asked what you think is the most overrated comedy, as many of the worst have incredibly high viewing figures. For people voting friends worst I wonder how many episodes they watched, true shite is turned off fast and not really remembered.

If you think Friends is bad then you are lucky not to have seen the UK sitcom Coupling, which was compared to friends.

Scrubs could be in both. The first x seasons were excellent, then I remember a new season starting and the nosedive in the writing quality was really obvious.
Scrubs died a death for me. If you look at lots of lists of best sitcoms many are just 2-3 series. Fawlty towers, UK office, father ted.

If scrubs quit early it might be higher rated. Gervais does this on purpose, I think all his are just 2 series. Extras was pretty good at time "super army soldiers"!

And its **** sitcom/****com When the Whistle Blows is funnier than some of the real ones listed here.

Barry off Eastenders and Andy’s agent are hilarious.

Is Friends bad? Dont know because i just cant suffer more than 30 seconds of it before one of those incredibly annoying characters has me scrambling for the remote. That blond ditzy one especially. If you can get past that, i can see it could be technically very decent.

Early days it was a decent copy of Seinfeld, but more broad. Then it got swallowed up by stupid romance stuff, and the laughs dried up. All chasing the easy money.

For contrast, Jerry Seinfeld was offered huge money to continue his show, but wrapped it up while it was still good.

    Best:
    The Office (UK)
    I'm Alan Partridge
    Peep Show

    Worst:
    The Big Bang Theory
    Melissa and Joey
Pretty much anything with David Spade

So many could have been in the Best category if you could only count their first 3 seasons; That 70's Show, Frasier and Arrested Development at least, maybe even the first 5 seasons of Scrubs. But they always go on too long.

    Is Friends bad?
It is another I would not have tuned in to watch but watch if it was on. If it is genuinely on peoples worst lists they they have either
-not watched much tv (e.g. missed uk show couplings or "my hero")
-or being incredibly lucky and not seen all the other muck

But most likely they are saying its overrated.

The problem with friends was it aired at a time when people were still stuck with just TV, no boxsets or netflix. There may have been only 1 tv in the house and they had to watch and suffer it since it was "the sisters program" that she got to watch. Or housemates watched it. It was so popular it was on tv so others had to watch.

It was also timed so it entered into the era of multiple TV stations so it was repeated ad nauseam, even fans must have got sick of that. There would be back to back friends on tv, or entire "joey weekends" or something on comedy central or E4 or similar stations.

Then you have the likes of extras, which is only aired once or maybe twice ever (but then is on demand). People forget it. Others were repeated enough that people were familiar and can remember quotes, like "only fools" & fawlty towers, but were never back to back 24-7, well maybe on Dave or something but not like Friends was.

We basically got a quasi Seinfeld sequel with Larry. I love those episodes of curb, larry/george and jason/not george together was just some of the cleverest and funniest meta comedy I've ever seen.

    Is Friends bad?

Friends would have been great if it was only half as good as it thought it was. But it wasn't even close.

Point of note about this show: Robbie Doolin, the actor who played the tubby neighbour with the goatee, was a member of the Real IRA, and had paramilitary-style funeral when he died.

I remember that. He died after he was restrained by bouncers when he attacked them with a baseball bat.

Like some posters have said i find it hard to say which are the worst 3 sitcoms as if i dont like a show after a few episodes i don't tend to continue watching it. What is the point in watching something you just know isn't for you? Some of those shows i switched off after a few episodes are

    Mrs Browns Boys
    Blackadder
    Friends
    Killinascully
    Simpsons

Are we talking The Simpsons or “The Simpsons”? Two very different shows. One is comedy gold, other is barely better than scutter and absolutely unwatchable. I hope you’re referring to the latter!

Which series of Blackadder out of interest? Blackadder 1 from 1983 is quite ropey but from 2 onwards are classics.

And? Kenny Everett was a mad Tory, do you really want to go through the personal lives of random actors?

Blackadder 1 is horrible really. Think Ben Elton came on board for S2 so that obviously helped. They seemed to give shows a chance to develop and find their feet back then, dunno would they get so much leeway nowadays. I love Red Dwarf and Seinfeld, but opening seasons werent great either.
