    Hi All

I’ve had the itch for a new phone for a while.

I have had Samsung for years and was holding out till the S20 got released. However ,poor reviews of the version here ,with the Exynos chip has put me off!

Next I wanted the Mi 10 but it turns out that the European model is only a single sim . So I have abandoned that idea.

So after some research , I have narrowed down 4 options.

My main requirements is dual sim, good camera & GPS, good voice recorder.

Which of these would ye recommend ? . They are all similar enough in price apart from the Mi Note 10 which looks a bargain from Eglobal.

    Samsung S10
    P30 pro
    Mi Note 10
    One plus 7t

Just going to bump this thread as I am in a similar boat, looking at the Huawei P30 pro, Samsung S10 or Oneplus 7t (possibly pro). I'm sure there are posts in individual threads but boards.ie very slow the last 24 hours so any feedback on any would be appreciated!

Currently have a Samsung S8, never had a problem with it but would like an upgrade. Sort of leaning away from Samsung as haven't used either a Huawei or Oneplus before.

OP here , after going through my options /plenty research this is where I am at .

S10 , great phone overall . Having had Samsung they are robust as anything but for value there is better out there.

It would also make the transition simpler with a Samsung account- things like Samsung notes , call logs etc would come across

One plus 7 pro - decent phone but too much feedback about the camera being weak has shelved it.

So its between the P30 pro & Mi Note 10 . Still undecided

Both have high end camera /video (which is important to me ). Not sure if there is much between them.

Another poster linked the p30 pro for £429. They were huge money when they came out so big drop. Sorely tempted to pull the trigger on it .

That one for £429 is the 6GB. Vodafone has the 8GB back in stock for €500.

    Hmm.

I wouldn't take too much notice of processor envy with the S20. It's a great phone and the SOC difference would be marginal imho.

What's the budget? Not much by the sounds of it, so it's either a compromise or last year's flagships.

    The S10 being the standout.

P30? Not bothered about Google then huh?

    Get the 1+8.

P30 has Google services and will have for the life of its updates. It was released before the ban.

I’m after a dual sim so the usual suspects are out.

one plus 7t is the weakest camera by far and not great

the other 3 will take good photos

p30 pro better than mi note 10 camera
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVmxKivGv28

p30 pro pro better than samsung also camera-wise

whatever you can get the best deal on between the other 3 really imo

447 for mi note 10 pro 256gb version here (8gb ram)

    https://www.eglobalcentral.eu/xiaomi-mi-note-10-pro-8gb-256gb-dual-sim-midnight-black-1.html

    or under 400 for 128gb (6gb ram)

    https://www.eglobalcentral.eu/xiaomi-mi-note-10-6gb-128gb-dual-sim-midnight-black-1.html

probably little to no difference 6gb vs 8gb ram so if 128gb storage is enough cheaper one would do

eglobal would probably be 2 weeks delivery.

Some of the reviews say the Mi Note 10 has the better camera.

I think it is the same phone as the Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro Premium. They say it is ahead of the P30 pro.

These guys are good with camera reviews

Would the p30 pro have Android 10? I know the oneplus would have it out of the box, would I just have to install it as an update on the p30 pro?

The oneplus 7t sounds like it has a better screen, more powerful and a better UI. But the p30 pro seems to have a much better camera, battery life and is water proof. Tough to decide between the two.

My Vodafone P30 Pro updated to Android 10 a few months ago. I’m sure I’ve read people on other networks say the same too.

It’s still not wonderful but it’sa massive upgrade on their version of 9.

    None of the above.
    Sony Xperia XA1 or XA2.

Cheers for that, how do you find the P30 pro? I noticed you said to pick the 7T ahead of it in a previous post.

I'd rather take a selection of more independent reviewers and make one's mind up.

definitely not Sony as somebody here was saying. They have fallen way back, particularly in terms of value. They make decent camera sensors but the software side of the camera is more important these days and they are miles behind in terms of phone camera software and indeed phone software in general.

I wouldn’t rate the camera as highly as some. The zoom is fun at the start and all but I find every photo washed out looking from all the cameras. Maybe if you edit after then fine.
It’s a good phone and stuff like battery life is excellent but I’d rather live day to day with Oxygen OS than EMUI, though Android 10 on the Huawei improved that aspect a good bit.

They’d be extremely close as overall packages.

One plus 7T pro, probably the best phone I've ever had. I'd buy another one rather than going for the 8 as I like not having a camera looking at me constantly. There's nothing I can knock the phone for, I've never used a case with it and it's been dropped loads of times and I'm very surprised how well it's held up.

The 7T has been reduced on the UK One Plus store to £469. None in stock on the Irish store.

Edit: customer service says there'll be a restock though.

You couldn't really go far wrong with one, warp charging is a gift.

    Same camera

My understanding it’s the same phone. It has a different name in some regions for some reason.

I have fast charge on my OP5 and that's impressive enough.

I have always used Sony Xperia models. I like their design and build quality. I currently own an XA2 Ultra dual sim which I can only describe as awesome in every respect. I would strongly advise the O. P. to at least consider buying one. A very good value for money alternative to a Samsung, for example.

Ordered the p30 pro today, €99 upgrade with 3 and it comes with a Huawei smart watch. Seems like a decent deal.

Great choice by the way :)

I posted in the P30 thread this morning . There seems to be a new version of the P30 pro on the way . May make a difference in pricing on the existing model .
