    I'm FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! All 8 done!!!!

I passed Company (62%) and Criminal (64%), sitting them both for the first time!

I never have to set foot anywhere near the Red Cow ever again for the rest of my life, I'm emotional. Don't stop believing!!! :D

Congrats aha! (BUT FE-2 & FE-3 (PPC1 & PPC2) are also in the Red Cow if you continue on with your traineeship ... :o).

Passed 2 out of 3 along with tort being cancelled. 43% in equity bearing in mind I got 78% in my university final year exam last May. Anyone any tips for equity what am I missing?

Don't fall into that trap. Academic articles are not required to pass.

It could be that your law notes are inaccurate or you think you are understanding them but you actually aren't. That tends to be how most people end up failing Equity. You might not want to hear that you've been studying the wrong things or the wrong way, but I think it's the only thing that explains you getting 28 if you answered 5 questions previously and thought 4 of them were good.

I cannot stress that if you could convey to her a simple understanding of each topic + the relevant case law, you would be passing each question. So something is going wrong somewhere and it's not to do with her perceived "harshness" as a marker.

I think you’re being very brutal but honest and right.

    hHAHAHA W H A T

Ahhh, my friend said he would meet me after his exam in Blackhall but he must have meant 1) he had special accomdation in Blackhall or 2) he meant it metaphorically. Ofc they would have it there. God I hate that place. Every moment of joy brings more sorrow :pac::pac::pac:

Pm with your email and I can send you the notes I used for equity. I passed equity with 65 my first time. I can also give you a few tips and guide you through your studies if you want.

The exams are very hard they take a lot physically and mentally. When stressed I always said to myself they are hard but not impossible that’s what kept me going. So keep it up you’ll get there.
    Best of luck

I know people here mentioned they didn’t like Law Hero’s notes, but in a case where you got 28% previously I think Law Hero’s notes would really help you. They’re concise and if you learn them off by heart you will be able to pass! I didn’t use them for equity but saw them for other subjects and they are very exam focused

So the leavin cert today has been set for 29th July

Why couldn’t the law society come out and set a date for the EU and Tort exams today?! I think it’s holy unfair that we’re being kept in the dark and results today made no suggestion of the above exams going ahead other than usual fe1s in October sitting.

Hi, just wondering if I could possibly get these notes too, I was under the impression I did well in the exam and my result tells a different story!! Would love to cross reference with my own notes to make sure I'm not way off!

I feel your pain I failed equity last year it has the highest failure rate so don’t beat yourself up. I passed equity today and I used a certain hero notes so yes she made the world of a difference for me!

This time round I tried to cover as many topics as physically possible starting with the most popular and reoccurring ones first on the grids. I know theses exams are absolute head bangers but make sure to give advice like a lawyer would give there client in the exam questions i know sounds obvious but I didn’t emphasis it enough in my first sitting of equity but I did try to hammer it home this time with the ILAC method. Oh and some may disagree but my fifth question was dodge so I attempted a sixth question quickly bullet pointed and scribbled down whatever I could in the short space time.

Chin up and keep the faith you will get it next time round if you change up your approach.

This has probably been asked before, but does the percentage mark you get in your FE-1 matter when applying for traineeships? Or is just passing them enough?

Generally no, firms aren't concerned with fe1 grades- just that you pass them by your start date obviously! Many receive their offer before completing all 8, or before even commencing

Any idea when we can sit the postponed Tort exam? I have the other 7 passed now so would really like to get it over and done with.

    Thanks :)

No confirmation yet but let's hope it's around the same time as the Leaving Cert.

This is probably the wrong forum to post on but does anyone know if it's appropriate to just email firms left, right and centre personalised CV and cover letters?

AI have 7 passed and I'm currently waiting for the rescheduled date for EU. At this rate I know I'm not going to get into a big firm due to the amount of automated responses I got in the past and the current crisis we are facing. So I guess I'm just wondering how people are tackling the whole training contract issue.

I doubt many if any small firms will be taking on trainees right now due to the uncertainty and cash flow issues brought by the crisis. And that's going to last a few years. The big firms always need trainees, so they'll still be hiring but probably in smaller numbers and perhaps some deferrals.

Always seemed a bit crazy to me that people would have almost completed their Fe-1's without having a TC lined up. There's no guarantee of getting one and you might have spent years trying to get the exams done.

Dunno what I’ll do, is there any sector who’d welcome someone with a law degree and fe1s completed does anyone know.

Don't listen to the naysayers, you'll defo get a training contract. Are you based in Dublin? If not, you should consider moving up once things calm down and keep an eye out on LinkedIn for paralegal or legal executive roles.

Failing that, all firms will be recruiting as normal in October. Everyone knows that people with 8 FE1s under their belt tend to find it easier to at least get an interview. Apply for as many firms as possible and you'll be fine, trust me.

Apologies in advance, there is probably a more appropriate forum but I heard some 2020 trainee intakes were being postponed due to the virus - can anyone shed any light on this or possible knock on effect on 2021 contacts?

I have heard from friends that some firms have postponed pre seats as it was too difficult to organise remotely. In my case that is also true and I am also waiting to sit EU and Tort. I haven't heard anything about the PPC1 start being postponed.

Hi all, sharing in the frustration of everyone waiting for word on the EU/Tort rescheduling.

I was hoping for some advice. My intention was to sit the FE1s in two sittings of four, I passed the first lot in October and the second lot in March included tort. I passed the three I was able to sit in March, and now face the prospect of sitting one single FE1 for the first time. Can anyone advise how long it would take to study for tort by itself? I’m only experienced juggling four which I devoted 8 weeks study to, so two weeks per topic. Would it require two weeks to pass by itself? I’m thinking with just the one subject to focus on it could take even just a week? I was very comfortable with tort and spent a lot of time on it, so to say I was disappointed in the cancellation would be an understatement. Any advice much appreciated and if anyone needs any materials or tips for the other exams drop me a message and I’ll see what I can get for you!

    Thanks

Once you pass all 8 FE-1's... what are you supposed to do next? Are the firm supposed to send you documents, are you supposed to contact the Law Society or do they send you a letter?

Hi - I'd recommend trying to talk to their recruiters or HR departments on Linkedin. Connect with them and send a message. That way you know who you are dealing with and know that its been read. Ask if you can send them your CV and they will then have a face to the name also. Its more personalised.

Sorry to hijack but not sure where else to ask this

Depending on Friday's results I may have now passed all 8 FE1s. The thing is though that in the 2 years its taken me to do them I've come to the conclusion that I would probably rather qualify as a Barrister than a Solicitor. So with all the uncertainty around training contracts etc atm I'm strongly considering taking the plunge and just signing up for the King's Inns entrance exams this summer (or whenever they happen)

Just wondering if anyone knows if any allowance is made by King's Inns if you've already passed the FE1s? I'm assuming realistically that you still need to sit those subjects again anyway

    Thanks!

Its crazy to me the amount of people on here discouraging people from their dreams. They hardly have another persons best interest at heart - its as if they are afraid someone else will succeed while they are struggling. If this is what you want to do - go ahead and make it happen. and regardless of the job situation you will have a qualification to be proud of - a result of your hard work. To be honest naysayers make me work even harder. Anyway follow your dreams and who cares what anyone else thinks!!!

and to answer your question - no allowance for FE1s but you will have the experience sitting high pressure exams so it will stand to you.
