Well done everyone who passed. Those who didn't you'll get them next time and you'll be well-prepped for Blackhall. It took me a lot longer than I expected, a lot more hours than I thought and a lot more disappointments than I anticipated but finally tick this box.

Whats the highest marks people get like do people get maybe 64 or more in exams?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭Daly29

Also, my only experience of rechecking was 42 for Company last year moved to 54. Seems crazy to me that people looking to start a law career don't appeal within reason.

OMG I passed my last two I can’t believe it

You can view your script before having to apply for a recheck so I'd do that first and make up your mind then. It's not unknown for markers to miss whole questions.

That is presuming given the current circumstances they'll still have to email you a copy.

I got 40 in criminal law do you think is worth it to appeal on it?

You have a 0% chance of passing without a recheck - have you money to spend on it?

    42 in Equity
    worth a recheck?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 Jimdtug1

Always look at scripts of failed exams if you are anywhere near close to passing. I failed Constitutional in October, got 45. I checked the script in the Law Society and noticed a question i had answered and had been awarded 11 marks for was not added to the total on the front of the script. The paper had also been checked by the external examiner. When I rang the Law Society and informed them that i thought my paper had been masked incorrectly they were of the opinion that 45 was the correct mark and that i was mistaken. Two days later i received a call informing me that a mistake had been made and that my correct score was 56 and a pass. That was my last exam as well, i was going nuts.
Moral of the story - Always look at failed scripts.

Is a 44 in equity worth a recheck?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 191 ✭✭Jeremiah25

4/5 passed this sitting. 7 in total. Got 42 in constitutional...

Any chance they’ll take the other 7 into account when rechecking? :D

can't believe I'm finally finished these god awful exams, big thank you to everyone here for keeping me sane the last couple of years. To anyone disappointed today keep working and you will get there eventually, I was in the same boat a couple years back having missed out on the magic 3, with no legal experience, no contacts and no prospect of even paying my way while in blackhall even if i did land a TC and I was very close to packing it in. 2 years later I'm finished and looking forward to starting my Training with one of the big 5. So to anyone feeling down or doubting themselves today, keep working and YOU WILL GET THERE!!!

What happens when you passed all your fe1s? Do you get a letter from the law society stating that ?

    Finally passed my last 2!

It’s taken me 5 sittings (missed the magic 3 in the first two sittings), then 3 passed, then 3 passed and finally 2 today.

It’s a long slog and so disheartening at times but if you’re disappointed or today didn’t go your way don’t beat yourself up about it, just keep chipping away one exam at a time and you’ll get there in the end! Thanks to all for their help over the last 2 and a half years and best of luck to everyone going forward!

How is it going to be possible to view scripts with the virus? Got 46 in constitution, its actually better than I thought seeing as I only answered 4 correctly!

Constitutional seems to have hit hard last sitting? Lot of rechecks incoming!

    Hey guys,

I failed both of mine unfortunately. Equity i knew had gone badly so wasnt expecting much but I got 43 on contract. I'm so disheartened because last October I nearly walked out of contract but finished the paper and got 42.

I do not understand how I only got 43 on this paper because I answered all 5 questions with what I thought was ease! I'm so upset and can't stop crying at my desk. I have emailed to view my scripts but don't know that will happen with Corona.

Also, I have appealed in the past and feel like I am throwing money down the toilet as they have both come back with the same mark as before.

Don't get too disheartened, i know that is hard today. View your scripts firsts and then decide, but 43 is a mark worth getting a recheck on imo. View your script first and go from there. There are people who got additional marks after viewing their script where points had not been tallied correctly. Viewing your script has no charge attached.

Do you get your money back if your re-check mark goes up?

I can only speak from my own experience but a lack of legal experience wasnt a big issue at all, I worked in quite a unique service industry job so when my lack of experience came up I pointed out some of the transferable practical skills I had picked up in my work like man management, prioritisation and customer relations. The interviewers seemed to agree this was more relevant than somebody talking about shadowing a solicitor or doing photocopying or general admin work. So while it would obviously be an advantage to have legal experience its not the most important thing. I'd say try to stand out with something unique to get in the door and also to give interviewers lots of scope to ask questions on during an interview that way you can keep clear of tricky commercial based questions for as long as possible. Most importantly keep applying you'll get loads of rejections before you get accepted so don't lose heart.
