Hello, its 13 years on, my God we didn't get very far with digital radio, its due to be closed this month. The format was never promoted or pushed. I think we should keep RTE Pulse and RTE Gold on saorview and online. What do you think.

Cant receive saorview. In fact havnt received any IRL TV channels since the analog switch off

Time to switch off RTE ?

Good Lord, where do you live? You can get all the RTE services on satellite, called Saorsat. Look into it.

Most people can receive it perfectly so leave it on.

Eventually, when DAB radio and Long Wave 252 goes, I hope RTE will improve their FM transmitter network by turning up the power on the lower powered transmitters.

Have and happy with Freesat, cant face the messing about that a dual dish system would bring.

    Why?

Height needed means V serious truck mount hoist, would have to get trees cut down to get it in ... becomes a bit of a project - and for what ?

Did they change transmitters at the switchover?

So you can receive RTÉ TV Free-To-Air via satellite if you want to, but choose not to. Your choice. That's not a valid reason "...to switch off RTE".

For the record, the Saorview network covers a greater percentage of households in the Republic of Ireland (99%) than the main Freeview multiplexes do in the UK (98.5%). Unless you're a small country like Luxembourg and/or have ridiculously flat & compact terrain, a VHF or UHF radio network will never be able to promise 100% population or geographical coverage, instead there will hopefully be a "best endavours" for public service broadcasters.

Some of the transmitter sites were closed, and this created a problem for Olddog, that is why Saorsat is put in place to save money. If right is right we should be all receiving RTE from satellite, it would save RTE a fortune.

98% of houses can get Saorview via an aerial if the figures are right. Either that or 98% of the population. Which was the same for analogue. The right part of it is to do with rights.

If RTE and Virgin were FTA on 28 East the same as BBC and ITV, then their rights to show e.g. Champions League would probably have to go, since the signal covers well outside of Ireland. The subject has been done to death on Boards. And the 9 East option is there now, which it wasn't in analogue times.

This isn’t the place for that particular debate. In fact, a 13 year old thread isn’t really the place for any debate
