Quirkey is the well known poster of former years, correct? Do believe I shared a beer or two with him after Frankfurt 2015. At least I think he was there, along with Krusty and The Piper. That was a good line up that year.

I think he may have forgotten looking at his Strava feed.

20:09 for me and surprisingly I’m not that disappointed even though I haven’t broken 20min since 2015. I think I’ll do it on the next one??

Looked at the watch after a couple of hundred metres which showed 5:30 pace so I even had the ‘going off too fast’ mistake just like a real race.

Great idea for an event B and hope you’re feeling ok.

    What a day.

Warm up number 1: Felt tired, legs felt heavy.
Serves me right for not drinking all week.

Attempt number 1: Midday. Hot. People. Took off like I was doing strides.
Result was a fail of almighty proportions.

Stopped after 2.5km or else I would have died......no joke......ok, maybe not.

Cool down - the shuffle of shame.

    Some hours later.................

    Attempt 2:
Warm up - a bit more bouncy - some strides. Feeling ok.

Plan: do the 1st km in 3.40.
    Actual: 1st km in 3.32

1st 3km actually felt ok - despite the constant road crossing and on/ off the paths.
Had a minor scare during KM 4 - though I was having a heart palpitation - slowed down for a few secs, it passed - back on.
    Last KM - in treacle....
really tough but finished it out.

17.56 and HAPPY. (even though elapsed time was 18.01) - Barry can take either - I'm ok with that.

Thanks Barry - top man - great days work and super event.

19:46 for me, ran it this morning on the Holywell Junior Parkrun / Singer DCM 2020 MP loop :)

Happy to have gone sub-20, a completely arbitrary but crucial target to hit!

All out by the end, it was great to flop on to the grass at the end and bask in the sun for a few minutes as recovery. All races should have an empty patch of grass beside the finish line for this.

Thanks a mil to OONegative and all the posters. Super thread, and there's no way I would have gone out and done this on my own.

Come on folks. Only 332 more posts to ease ahead of the Toxic Sweat thread. We owe it to Barry to make it happen.

Very jealous of everyone today, well done all.
Hopefully I'll give this a rattle in 2/3 weeks.

31:36 on the flat out-and-back route beside Adamstown railway line. Quiet enough route, as expected. Pacing went badly awry, reaching the turn in 14:37. Second half in 16:59. Serves me right for doing nothing this week. New shoes too! Not Nike, but Adidas.

    That hurt. A lot.

Thanks to O- for organising. I'll definitely prepare better for the next one (Mile?). :)

I think I'll also identify as M80 or W60 for the next outing. :pac:

DNF unfortunately... its been a long time since I started a running race without preceding it with a swim and bike, and that initial over-eagerness (coupled with a downhill start) blew my 4:12/km pacing to smithereens. First km came in 3:43, and the damage was done. I made it to halfway point in 9:37 and threw in the towel.
Still, enjoyable to attempt, and thanks OOnegative for organising and for the enjoyment. Well done all, some great community spirit to go with great times. Donated double my time (plus a bit more for expected slowdown!)

I'm tempted to try again next week seeing as I missed my target, might keep going weekly until I break the sub 20 as a solo run, don't think the weather will ever be more perfect than this morning tough.

Then again i might just up my drinking instead:)

Well done everyone. Donation of my time done as well.

I enjoyed this. Did it on the very familiar mile route used for the club race series during the year, I'd often do sessions there too.

Lusk 4 mile a few weeks ago (feels like years ago) gave me a predicted time of 26:29. Weighing up that training has gone well since vs doing this solo I said I'd aim for sub 27 and see if there was any change left over. The plan called for a 5k tt anyway with instructions not to overthink it, to run by feel as much as possible, get into the habit of practicing mental toughness and pushing on.

Toed the line, watch ready and took off. My goal was not to take off too fast. Utter fail a few hundred of metres in, I could see 7:xx on the watch. Made the effort to slow down and the first mile was 8:22. Struggled with the mental demons on the second mile "I've to do this loop twice more??"

I knew I was slowing but that I had time banked from the first mile loop. Just focused on not getting disheartened by the slower pace on the lap and do the best I could. That came in at 8:44 so I only lost a few seconds on the sub 27 pace goal. Going through 2.11 I could see I only needed just under a 9 minute last mile for the original target. However I knew I had the extra time still banked so a better time could be on the cards if I could keep the pace up.

The legs were like jelly at this stage, and the breathing was ragged. I was running on the road (it's quiet) to avoid up and down on footpaths and to make sure I was well socially distant from anyone who might appear. I could see I was holding pace and started pushing on a bit before the third mile ended - 8:38. Knew I was in with a chance of the Lusk predicted time so ignored everything that was suffering and gave it welly for the last bit 7 m/m pace and a 26:30 finish.

Happy with that. Ticked the box of feeling like a race and going out too fast, hanging on, digging in and pushing for the finish. Knowing I had to report back here and for the plan was a good motivation. Sat on the kerb for a breather after and the calves were locked and like rocks initially. Eased out with a little walk and a shuffle home.

Well done all. Some incredible times and great to see lots of excitement about it all. I've enjoyed seeing the reports and strava details going in.

Can I count this as my first race in a new age category - masters? :)

    Thanks for organising B!
