I understand this is completely dependant on where you go/where you stay etc but interested to hear ballpark figures of where people went and approximately how much it cost.

I always here of people going travelling for a year but in my head it would be like 15-20k

Give us a rough idea on location and your way of traveling.

For Asia or South America, a year without flights to the location could be done less than 10k but you'd be travelling slowly

Like South East Asia can still be done cheaply but hostels would be where you are staying,8 - 10 euro a night is a good average at the top end but could be down for 4-5 euro a night

On that alone for a year your talking somewhere between 1400 - 3600 for accommodation.

Food the same, if you eat local stuff and street food, budget well, you can survive easily on 5 euro a day but when you add in drink to it if your that way inclined you could spend a lot more.

I'd say keep maybe 10 euro a day for activities whether that is hiring a scooter, visiting somewhere, travelling etc, its a good base point.

What I'm getting at is it can be done for very little if your very frugal or could cost a fortune. I personally hate living so tightly so I did a 6 months, then worked in Oz for 4 months and did another 8 months, I spend probably 15k for the 14 months (not including oz as I was working) and had a fairly comfortable trip.
