Will they pick me up and give me free accommodation while I work?

Your aul comprehension must not be the best, you know, (as I told you already up thread) - that food production is an essential service - you can travel outside 2km for essential work purposes - the 2km limit is only for exercise purposes, as you should know.

You are either deliberately pretending not to understand the current national situation, or you need to have another read up on what's in place.

The post above is ridiculous tbh.

Is house painting an essential service like food production?

Sorry didn’t realise we could all starve without our berries!!!

Wait, so governments world wide have travel restrictions, we can't stray further than two kilometre radius, but Keelings can import Bulgarians in to our country while its on lock down, for profit? Nevermind the labour part, but how are they allowed to do such a thing when governments are saying otherwise? Makes this effort of our little country a joke.

Who approved Keelings to make this decision? This country is a joke. Sure I'll import a few Bulgarians to paint my house.

Food production comes under essential services, and workers in this area of the economy come under essential workers.

Could be . Is there even a Government Agency to look after these workers and stop them being abused and exploited.

How Open are Keelings about their operations ? ? ?

comments from the Reddit threads show that Keelings are paying the minimum wage so I don't see how these seasonal workers are being abused. The work is seasonal and therefore not fulltime so workers are not protected by the unfair dismissals act. I really dont see where the abuse and exploitation is ??

Clarke and Connolly fought for Ireland, for people to get feed.
I’d imagine what they would think of people nowadays getting paid money for doing nothing and getting new houses for next to nothing

They are dead, they no longer have a thinking process. Dead people don't have opinions.

So far it's only strawberries deemed non essential by the good people of this thread, maybe there will be more added with more outrage, who knows

I don't like blueberries so I reckon we bring in a law temporarily banning their sale. We won't starve without them therefore they should be verboten!!!!!!!

    I'm joking of course .................

    .................I actually do like blueberries.

No, unfortunately not and havent done for years. A job for fruits pickers was advertised on keelings website 31 march. Everyone had the freedom to apply, no?
Have Keelings offered these Jobs to Irish people ? Lets see some genuine proof.

Perhaps they were going through the motions to provide cover for their Cheap / Exploited Labour Shenanigans. Its all got rather embarrassing for them. Perhaps they are wise enough to kick up some dust to fool the easily fool-able ! !:eek:

I think this crisis should have shown us that we should be more self sufficient. Eating produce that we can grow here in Ireland makes much more sense then relying on the importation of avocados & pineapples etc.
So, yea I would see strawberries & every other berry we grow here as essential

Ya need a different excuse unfortunately. If you work for them you are an essential worker and can travel for the work

    Must try harder!

I do t need to prove anything because you are the one implying they are using fang bosses.
With no proof or actual links to Keelings.
Perhaps after their Recent Shenanigans an Investigation by some Government Agency is what is in Order. Lets get it all out in the Open ! !

Strip it back. I'm struggling to make sense of the situation.

At the top of the tree, is this about the health crisis or the fact that we have thousands of people unemployed who could now be working picking strawberries if it wasn't for foreign labor?

If it's the health crisis, then what do you propose? Should fruit not be picked? Are strawberries excluded for some reason as being non-essential?

If we can't have foreign labor picking strawberries, what freight that we receive through from outside borders ought to be stopped because it is deemed unessential?

    They advertised the jobs.

How would people have Avocado toast for breakfast and post up pics of it on Instagram?

    Peas.

I think there should be a pea boycott.

Peas are just little round green things and absolutely non essential.

Broccoli too, broccoli should be banned. Definitely not essential.

Turnips. That's a tough one. What do we do about turnips Facebook masses?

It's daft I know but do we seriously want to start down that road?

    Minimum wage

Irish suddenly want to fruit-pick strawberries. Is this for real or just you perceived injustice and hurt feelings?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,653 ✭✭✭✭amdublin

At its simplest we need fruit and veg etc. It's part of the food supply chain essential.

And we need workers to pick this fruit for us to to then purchase and buy.

No Irish applied for these jobs. Ahem, being realistic, why would we when get $350 for doing nothing at the moment. Fruit picking is very hard.

Some comments here and elsewhere have a bang of "fordners taking are jobs" which is absolute rot.

I do hope the correct rules are applied 're social distancing are adhered to these workers and I hope they all stay well.

I wish them the best in health and their work.

Well, we have grass, some cobbled stones, leaves are very nutritious, just harvest is a bit down this time of year.

Ok, forgive my comments about essential/non-essential. They were idiotic. I'm wrong and ye are right in that regards. If strawberries are deemed essential then so be it.

But are you ok with what Keelings have done? Given the current situation?

They have moved the goalposts so much that they don’t even know what they’re outraged at.

They earn minimum wage, which is a lot more then they could earn in Bulgaria.
Plus they stay in apartments. The Bulgarian on reddit said he stayed in student apartments. That's not bad?
