Given the tax, I honestly can't see that shifting at anything near that price. Especially given the times we find ourselves in.

Pics aren't particularly good either. Years test is a plus. If there was a years tax it might make it shift a bit quicker.

Around 3k with some tax would be tempting

yeah! even the location doesnt help. By a mile the biggest market is dublin and people in general are seriously lazy. I think if the owner doesnt already have another car, selling these for the price they will achieve, which is always less than owner expects, doesnt really make sense...

unless they are doing large mileage etc...

Heres a reasonably well spec'd CGI 350, nice colour combination, original Irish, 1 previous owner, long NCT etc.

If I was in the market this would be top of my list

I know these are based on an E Class so perhaps not strictly a barge, but IMO an exception should be made. They are still a fairly impressive and imposing car, and they don't feel like much of an E Class.

Good grief...that's some amount of buttons on the centre console/dash.

It sounds like it's been sold by a trader tbh....... "Small strach on driver's door

Haha, someone who might be able to justifiably say "all extras" so rather than someone selling a car a notch above paddy spec filling up the ad with useless type commentary.

still missing a few options though, cooled seats, rear blind are two off the top of my head.

are cooled seats really important here? like nice to have, but would be fairly irrelevant to me, now the w221 not having heated seats as standard, unbelievable!

aww lad, when you have them its game over on anything else, sunny day and a bit of a breeze around the balls is magical. Never buying a car without them again.

Ill throw in a free 12v fan and you can stick it between the legs, if I decide to sell mine at some point! :D has the rear electic blinds ...

Back onto the topic of CLS', here's an original Irish V8 500 for €3950

Spec is good. Airmatic, sunroof, active bi-xenons (yes, these came standard with halogens) and judging by the extended perforation on the seats, it looks like it might have the all important ventilated/cooled seats. I had a look at the build sheet but its in German so can't really make head nor tail of it

Its silver under the wrap (which would definitely have to go) too.

Certainly "Electric" looking in blue, and if it was the original color, I'd be happy with it, but color changing a car has never sat well with me. maybe because in the past, I have seen too many flaking paint color changes,,,and nothing looks worse, about the wrap on method, I have absolutely no experience, except what I can see, so I don't know how durable / wearable it will be.
    But nice specs otherwise,

    What does wrap removal cost?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,957 ✭✭✭GavMan

At least the wrap looks like a decent job. Wouldn't be my preference but looks well put on so should come off fine if the paint underneath was in good nick. The wheels however are a completely different kettle of fish IMO. Don't suit the car at all.

Again, the seller is really up against it here. 4k asking and huge tax and very little test remaining. We must me approaching the point where these cars are essentially worthless unless you're selling with a years tax and test on it and then you might get 2-3k. Given impending economic circumstances and the small enough pool of potential buyers at the best of times, it would be a hard sell in the best of times. That buyer pool could now be seriously diminished.

If you thought about it in terms of 3-5 years ownership costs, would you be better off paying that cost up front for a mkII model on more manageable day to day running costs?

All that being said, would make for a heck of a 2nd car to buzz around in during the summer months and store it up over the winter!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,691 ✭✭✭✭Idbatterim

yeah alloys are awful. Agree with the above post, certainly if its the 350 etc they are nearly worthless, the 500 would be slightly different. But then you are back to the issue of, far better off buying an s500 w221, far more presence and you can justify the running costs easier. I just think so much has been sucked into the black hole of just not worth running here, nearly regardless of cost price, because the cars arent impressive enough, to justify the mainly ridiculous tax and I know that is reflected in them being near given away!

Saw a 201D Range Rover in this colour.... hmmm... I just thought "why?"

Maybe it will become a popular colour.... seems to be all black, white or grey ATM.

A mark one CLS is really only for someone who specifically wants one. Sure you could buy a load of other stuff that would make more financial sense, but I don't think you buy one to save money. They are a different kind of car altogether to an S Class even. IMO they are a far more impressive car than an S Class, and they turn way more heads. They're a lot more easy to manage than an S Class too, in terms of size and being based on an E Class etc. The great thing about the 500 is the fact that its no more expensive to tax than a 350.

Yes , out of the factory you could argue they look better , if it's a lwb w221, facelift lights , amg body kit etc , there is no comparison in my opinion .... and the nice amg alloys of course

it was actually the car I wanted before I saw the car I had now... and you are right, I likely would have went for that, if someone hadnt done all the work on the one I bought...

Just a question about these wrapped vehicles, what's the story when a wing or door get's scraped or damaged...just normal repair, and re-wrap the affected area?? And do they suffer from peeling due to excessive heat /cold etc? What's the downside to them? Or is there even a downside?

Put a set of OEM wheels and that could be the ultimate sleeper. Tax is horrendous though.

I remember that coming up for sale about two years ago, a dealer had it and it was still a 1 owner car (Russian embassy)

Someone bought it, put on the m sport bumpers and those wheels and added €10k to the price a few weeks later

You'd have to view it as it's way less then the annual depreciation on a €30k thing like a Golf or whatever.

No NCT on it and has been standing for 2 years. Hmmm

Tax isn't an issue, I'm well used to paying €1800. But that car needs a service report/NCT before I'd go near it.

It's a late model e60, probably a better option than an early f10 of the same vintage.
I'd love it, definition of a sleeper especially as it's SE spec and debadged.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,691 ✭✭✭✭Idbatterim

I thought either the car is dodge as hell or the tax has to be the E2350 rate. You could declare it off road and take chances, depending on how much driving and high risk area you are in... dont do it now though ;):D

its a tough one, the only thing I like about it really, is the engine...

the car is likely worth about a year and a halfs tax if paid by the quarter!

IIRC that car first appeared for sale in a garage in Tipperary, in its SE spec and had a hitch on it. Could’ve been around the €5k price range.

Then appeared for sale in Dublin a few months later looking the way it is now, and asking €10k.

Definitely has appeared on Boards every time its been advertised.

interesting! you would wonder would they be better off trying to sell it to uk etc and get VRT refund?

That 550i has definitely been on here a few times so it's passing through the trade regularly. And I do remember twice that being asked for it too, most likely an ex embassy car. Need to ditch those horrible aftermarket wheels though.
