If there hasn’t been a major run on rice to date, there will be soon:

Indian rice exports suspended as lockdown disrupts supply chain. Predictions are that this will impact Europe in a few months -disruptions to global food supply system resulting from the pandemic will be felt soon enough I’d say.

It's a bank holiday weekend with nothing to do but go to the supermarket, it was always going to be mayhem.

Go late at night just before closing verus peak hours during the day!

Be careful of this.... My dunnes monitor the queue a few hrs before closing and will close it off around an hour before the shop closes.

Easter weekend is always a very busy weekend, remember some stores are closed on Sunday so anyone that usually shops on a Sunday will probably do it before especially if they've to get eggs etc

Plus some shops are closing earlier due to the pandemic.
I'd normally go shopping at 9.20 on a Thursday night in Aldi ,and after 10 in Tesco as its very quiet then .
I had to bump Aldi up 2 hours on the last couple of trips as they now close at 8 and it was much busier than after 9.

Tesco Merrion had a Q going down to Merrion road, Id guess it would have taken 25 min to get in . around 11AM this morning , went to a smaller Tesco Metro , was only only a 5min wait.

Thankfully the butchers and corner shops never have any queue so only need to do a supermarket shop every week or so.

My local butcher (who has an excellent reputation, to be fair), has queues out the door and around the corner every time I pass :(

I did the Pallas Foods click and collect in Cork today for the first time. Amazing service and top quality food, I didn’t even have to leave the car as it was loaded into the car by the driver of the Pallas food truck.

Veg and meat are exceptional quality and available in home sizes, some of the products are bulk only so I have 10 ketchup bottles but we will get through them :D

Decent value for money as well, I will definitely do my shopping with them for the ease and value.

Got my trolley at tesco this morning, popped it back pretty quickly. I didn't realise the end of the world was this weekend.

About 30 minutes standing in the sunshine waiting to get into Tesco at lunchtime today. There are worse ways to waste 30 minutes when you're an apartment dweller.

That's interesting that a wholesaler would offer direct sales.

Used it for the first time this week in South Dublin - will be using again.

Aren't the elderly and those with underlying conditions the most at risk demographic group?

Of course. And then you've got to think of those who live with said people. They may not step foot outside the door, but their relative who lives with them may work as an essential worker of some sort. As always the poor and less resourced will be putting themselves at risk.

I am a frequent shopper at Tesco Rathmines, and during the lockdown I have patiently queued for up to 35 minutes to get in the door.

I was very disappointed to find today that they have been letting drivers who use the car park enter the store by the back door with almost no queuing.

This is a real slap in the face for local and loyal customers like me who wait patiently outside on the road. As far as I know it does not happen at other Tesco stores, but if it does, then that is also objectionable.

Clearly, we are not really "all in this together."

Are the Tesco priority hours on weekends too, or just weekdays only?

Are you sure it wasn't staff? People queuing up at my store can get a bit snotty when we walk straight past the queue on the way into work!

Pretty sure it's Mon Wed Fri 7-9am for oaps and carers and Tue Thur 7-9am for healthcare workers.

That being said there is a separate queue at my local tesco for over 65s all day long.

Any Saturday morning I've been there there hasn't been priority hours

Just went in and there's no dedicated hours at the weekend. In and out before 7.30am, no queue, definitely the way to go.

Big Qs around today with lots of empty shelves, assume people thinking the world is about to end with shops being shut tomorrow.

I was in Tesco Jervis yesterday. It was packed and like a Petri dish for Covid. No controls on people entering. In the end decided to leave and report it to the Guards.

It's very strange how big companies can be very different depending on which store you're in. Regional managers should be out doing spot checks and store managers fired for breaches such as the one you describe.
