Rose of Tralee, jesus I was about to say I’d imagine that shows days might be numbered but over 700,000 tuned in to see the last one. just over a 6th of the population. Madness.

Always wondered how they did those tv ratings. I just cannot see 700,000 watching that horse manure. If you were at home and flicking through the channels and happened to just put RTE 1 and 2 on for a split second they'd probably add you to the numbers. There cant be 700,000 nutters that watch that ha.

There is no way that Channel 4 would allow the Inbetweeners be shown if it came out today without fiddling with it. Any so called homphobic slurs would be cut out and the cast would need to be "diverse"

It sounds crazy. WHY or WHERE would you get 700000 to watch that.. actually just reading and RTÉ don’t quote any sources, must be their own number.

So many homophobic aspects not too mention the sexual / women jokes.

I still find it hilarious though

It’s dated slightly in that respect. Also in earlier episodes there would be certain gags in certain scenarios that’s by today’s standards could be considered racist... John Sullivan probably very cleverly got and gets away with it as part of the appeal of the show is that every character get the piss ripped out of them for any and ALL reasons... so it’s not discriminatory.

And a movie of the former just came out too!

Porridge? A brilliant sit-com. Excellently written, hardly any excess dialogue, realistic characters, cleverly constructed situations.
Has stood the test of time.

    Friends.

Not a hope it would remain anywhere the same as the original.

    Married with Children.

The early seasons of that programme were genius but so many of the jokes now would be viewed very badly.
I was about to put Married with children as well, watched this a couple of months back made me crack up.

Wasn't it some woman going on telly complaining about how offensive Married With Children was in the eighties that exposed it to a new audience and it got very popular after that, it might not have gone on as long if it wasn't for the "outrage brigade"

    Father Ted

Noone gives a sh1te about priests

Indeed. I love Fr Ted but the idea of incompetent, criminal priests was a lot more subversive even in the 90s than it would be now.

I remember the last time Mrs Doubtfire was repeated on RTE or whoever, thinking this gas film likely will be blacklisted within a few years. The idea there should be something humorous, over the top or ridiculous about a man dressing as a woman as the plot of a comedy will no doubt get it tossed in the drawer soon enough.

UK Gold already cuts the casual racist references, unfortunately. It's a comedy of its time, leave it be.

Any Irish person who is offended by Del's description of a cement mixer as the "old Irish tumble dryer" should take a long walk off a short pier tbh.

Watching reruns of the Sweeney on ITV4 at the moment. Plenty in there to offend the delicate. Hard boozing, casual sexism, roughing up wrong uns.

Watched all of that recently and yes it has aged terribly. The whole concept of it was terrible as well do.

Awe no ''Buck Rogers in the 25th Century'' is classic. I love watching it when its on the T.V which is rare enough.
Maybe it was very sexist alright and it would have to be wrote different for sure now but I still love it.

Imagine nowadays with canned laughter and the girls smuggled around in the boot of a car working 20 greasy f**ers a day
