    Isn’t it varying related to when the outbreak started in a particular country, clusters , when lockdown is implemented etc. There will be lots of variables and we’ll only really enable to tell all when it’s all over and complete data sets are available.

    And are we? Have you looked at the number of deaths on rip.ie the last couple of days. Well above the average amount at about 130 per day and all deaths are not put up on rip.ie.

    Agreed , and what’s the alternative. Everyone start the year again? Lose a year? Also everyone is in the same boat, so if performance is affected points wise, it will probably be consistent across the board.

    and the mean would be 54, which is much less accurate. none of the people are even close to 54.

    I thought the median was that half those who died were over that age and half were under?

    Is your calculation not the mean?

    It works for larger populations though and unfortunately the numbers are going to be increasing. Hence you may get that sort of distortion in daily figures but it's much less likely a problem with the cumulative totals
