Dublin is epicentre in Ireland, and it's opened up to the rest of the country, that's not cool. Dublin needs a lockdown and to stop the flights from UK and europe. We could end this quick with those two things, will drag on for months if we don't.

We can’t end this quick. We can possibly reduce our cases to very low figures but that would involve keeping our borders shut. As soon as we open them back up then we’d see a spike again.

If we went this route, it’d set our economy back 50 years. We’d also likely end up a European backwater. No use having low corporate tax when we have closed borders. All the multi nationals would up and leave and likely not return. We’d also be crippled by debt because we’d have 1-2 million unemployed and there’s not likely to be another European company lining up to help.

    Just to be clear here
There is a mis conception that when a successful vaccine is developed this virus will "go away"
    Sadly NOT
We have a seasonal 'flu vaccine but it doesn't go away
The number of cases and deaths will be dramatically reduced but sadly it won't go away
There are strong possibilities that it could mutate and lose it's potency which obviously will be very good news :)

If there is a vaccine the world will go back to normal. Its having nothing in the arsenal to fight this that's causing panic.

Why are the case percentages so wrong? It's saying Dublin has 55% of cases but 320 cases out of 785. That's just over 40%. It says Cork has 15% with 88 cases. But that's actually just over 11%. It says Limerick has 3% with 15 cases but that's actually under 2%. It says Galway has 4% with 21 cases but that's actually a little over 2.5%.

    What am I missing?

Meath had 11 cases yesterday, now it's 10?

It takes a few weeks before the results of a lockdown can be seen.

Same as all out new cases are likely at least 12 days old.

I just see the numbers in Italy dying daily increasing and because I made a comment that the half the country could be wiped out, I'm trolling, let's get real an awful lot of Italians are dying, it is heartbreaking what is happening over there and now looks like Spain, US and UK death toll is also rising, is it wrong to talk about the deaths, if so I apologise

Whilst your statement about half the Italian population dying was a bit trolly , you were just basing that on extrapolating the current death rate.

    Which is fine.

But the trouble is , we aren’t seeing loads and loads of Italian kids in ICU. This isn’t the plague. There’s something in kids that possibly turning them into Corona vectors , without any symptoms. Hence they are infecting their Italian grandparents? Possibly?

I’m damn sure this aspect is being looked into by scientists worldwide - is there “something” in kids that’s beating Corona. Might be an opening to a vaccine.

This is just me thinking aloud and generally adding to the conversation hopefully.

Is the lockdown order being obeyed? They were rumours of an exodus of people leaving Lombardy when it was first introduced.

They take time to work and while that time is passing you are already stopping new infection by being locked down. It's not that difficult to understand.

But seriously, what’s wrong with you? Why do you feel entitled to abuse strangers? If you’re high risk, how about you go home?

How do you know? A period of time has still not passed since the lockdown in which you would expect rates to have dropped.

Ireland is a pretty heavily affected area at this stage. Should we quarantine ourselves?

No where near as bad as it is in london

There are about 4'000 deaths in Italy so far.

At a death rate of 6% if all of Italy got the thing that would be 3.6 Million deaths.

Even the most pesamistic among us here does not expect the 6% death rate to hold true for the wider population nor do we expect all 60 Million Italians to get this thing.

At a death rate of 2% for Italy this thing COULD cause close to a Million deaths.

Italy has 60 million people and even I cannot see a Million deaths happening.

The most vulnerable seem to be dying so as this thing spreads I think we can expect to see the death rate drop.

    Should we panic? NO
    Should we worry? YES

We need to take this thing serious.
