Far higher when health systems collapse, Italy, Hubei, Iran, Spain...soon to be UK Netherlands Belgium Switzerland USA

What about the thousands of people who have had the virus without even knowing it and the people who currently have it who will not get tested for it. The mortality rates are all based off confirmed cases only which is inaccurate.

Is there a number we could call Simon on? I'm prepared to bate anyone if the minister leads out ...

They're not remotely comparable, be careful what you wish for:

Is it true that the government are contacting teachers to try and hire them to carry out contract tracing and general admin?
This is to be a paid role. Even though they are already being paid as it is.

Teachers should better start setting up some system to learn kids through online means. Or at least those who are interested in learning.
My sons school set up system already and he has a classes with homework and all of it as if he was in real school.
My daughter on the other hand is going crazy as she cant get in touch with none of her teachers and even those few who sort of give them some assignment and means to contact them are not replying to querries at all. She is missing school a lot and thank god my son who is older is able to help her when she encounter some problem.
But I find it appaling that while one school has no problem to continue education other one is completely opposite and teachers there treat this situation like paid holidays.
We will not benefit from leaving kids down like this.

Im a teacher and I haven’t been contacted, I would gladly do it without additional pay.
My sister has been contacted she’s a speech and language therapist and her clinic is closed ( they are not being paid). She has said they are looking at other HSE workers like OT, speech and language therapists who are out of work to do contact tracing.

I wish we’d get an update on the schooling because as of now we haven’t heard that there’s any change to kids going back Monday 30th. If we knew there kids weren’t going back I think a lot of teachers would get work sorted for the kids for further so they could be available after the 30th.

I see. Well fair play to you. You are all educated and responsible people I'm sure you would all be a great help

South Korea have tested hundreds of thousands tho, and not just symptomatic people

Did you say the same thing about swine flu? Were you calling out Mexico/US then? Was eating pigs disgusting? What's disgusting to you may not be disgusting to someone else. This moralising over eating habits is so boring and hypocritical.

Somewhat valid point, however certain individuals in Chinese society are living in the dark ages and are eating animals that arguably should not be consumed by humans i.e. dogs, bats etc etc. They will be called out, they will of course resist but i think the wet market days are numbered and rightly so

Recoveries are not announced, however they are recorded by the DoH and given to the ECDC in accordance with the WHO guidelines. Worldmeters and Johns Hopkins University of Medicine are publishing these based on ECDC/WHO data, for Ireland it is recorded as 5.

Ok thanks. I had noticed the press announced the first 4 recoveries so thought it might be something they would report on periodically.

Nah this is just not true. A ninth passenger on the cruise died today, that is about 1.2% mortality rate and is by far the closest sample we have to any true mortality rate. When have nine passengers ever died on a cruise because of say a flu outbreak..? Never..nobody is over reacting to this, it is getting the reaction it that is needed

And passengers on a cruise ship are a representative sample of humanity since when?

The dogs on the street know there will be no school on the 30th and I'd put money on school not returning at all for this academic year.

Trying to tell the Irish Public to keep 3 feet from one another is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Some people are just thick and when they are outside they ignore (some not intentionally) the rules. We really deserve what's coming tbh.

Pray hard for an early summer/heatwave at the end of March/early April. I remember we had a heatwave before around about the 1st of April. It will be beer garden time then and the government will probably lock us down then.

Best of luck with that, I assume Simon doesn't live in an estate?

Simon Coveney does live in an estate, the same estate as me in fact. Outside our estate last night there was a group of youth gathering by the petrol station. Parents moaning on a Facebook group for the town saying leave them alone they’re only socialising.

I’ve nothing bad to say about Simon in general. But I would say confronting teens isn’t a great idea. Especially not for the elderly population.

The knock on effect will also cause indirect deaths as medical staff and resources are consumed by the Covid 19 battle i.e. cancellations, longer wait times in A&e etc

Let’s hope A+E units stay as empty as they Are now.

I really do wonder at the marked difference in trolleys, beds available (for non covid) etc. Truly remarkable in just two weeks or so.

    Some story behind that,

Jesus you’d swear we’re asking teens to go to war or something. It’s just asking them not hang out in a group. Nobody is saying don’t go into your back garden or don’t cycle your bike. Teen nowadays have phones and iPads so can keep in contact with their friends.

The same gimps that call anyone over 35 'boomer' because they 'ruined the planet by being greedy and ignoring all warnings'.

The press made those announcements AFAIK, not the Department of Health.

It will be a long time before official recoveries are recorded and rise accordingly as current testing is stretched at the diagnosis stage, not recovery stage. The current guidelines from the WHO allow for discharge from hospital etc with no tests depending on the facts of each case.

I saw a post about dept of agriculture labs being used for tests as they do TB tests all the time.
. The vet injects a reacter and comes back 2 days later to physically inspect if there's a reaction. No sending off samples. Factory vets may take and send off samples from dead animals though. IDK

Er wonder why hasn't he already confronted this group of youths? Since that's what he's advocating.

    Very strange.

I'm afraid the long range weather models are hinting at easterly winds going into April, so it would be cool and dry. Of course with the collective power of prayer that might change.
