The gender imbalance is striking, anyone know why?

The virus wasnt given lessons on gender equality? Or pot luck?

Still unknown, I’m sure. But I’m sure they’ll figure it out!

    That's a lot better than yesterday. :)

Is there a pattern where it rises, following day it rises again, next day dips below that point and then you have a large increase the following day?

When testing you are always going to hit clusters of positive cases bumping up the numbers - its the spread over days you need to look at

To be fair the same could be really said for the whole of the EU.

There isn't a single country in Europe yet to cover themselves in glory in relation to this. If there wasn't the example of Italy for all to see, the other countries would still be doing very little.

Bullshít (to be fair) the Brits deserve special criticism for their herd immunity nonsense. They've only closed schools today

At this point, I'm way more interested in the fact we jumped from 6 to 12 people in ICU. We're increasing testing numbers day by day, so I'd expecting that number to jump massively each day regardless.

    How can they afford it?

    The British can print money.

Exactly what I said, government doing nothing as usual. My employer is trying to apply for a loan, being moved from one department to another, with excuses that the scheme hasn’t been implemented yet. Meanwhile, we are being made redundant, asked to take unpaid leave or put on short working week.

Low enough numbers in ICU so, manageable for the teams. I'd say a surge in ICU during the next few days but 12 in ICU is a good figure

There was only 7 in ICU yesterday, so it has almost doubled

    Ah that's a bit of a stretch isn't it?

€ 205 per week and three month moratorium added on at the end is an insult , our economy will collapse.

Presumably there was a backlog of tests from Patrick's Day yesterday, explaining today's "decline"?
They said they will not expect 30% a day, some days will be higher and some lower.

Why do they give the numbers in the HSE briefing from other countries (especially when they are clearly out of date)

Schools will remain open for "key workers". So they haven't really closed.

Considering that over 1 million work in the NHS alone, you can imagine the number of kids that will be going to school when the "peak" hits.

What does it mean when Tony says some are hospitalised for public health reasons rather than clinical reasons?

I assumed quarantining. Initially all were quarantined upon diagnosis in hospital i think. Maybe now they do so if the person is a risk to someone at home etc. Could be really wrong though!

If you look at it in isolation (pardon the pun) rather than in the context of total number of cases.

Why are some people so determined that everything has to be bad, bad, bad.

And again he states that 15000 by the end of the month is a figure of unmitigated growth.

What does it mean when Tony says some are hospitalised for public health reasons rather than clinical reasons?

Could it be people refusing to self isolate?

I'd assume there'd always be a lag between the big jump in confirmed cases and the big jump in critical / icu patients anyway.
