These Italian figures are making a mockery of the numbers coming out of China IMO.
Yes I know China locked down but I truely do not believe that the only have 81k cases in a population of 1.5 billion and Italy have 41k in a population of 60 million.
China infection rate of 0.0054% versus Italy with an infection rate of 0.068% (assuming I got my maths correct)

I was in Lidl this morning during the over 65 hours . It was quiet , orderly , shelves stacked , people keeping distance , staff helpful and trolly handles sprayed
I will be going there from now on

Unless someone literally sprayed Italy with a crop duster I can't see how the figures could be so different.

Can I just say a huge thank you to the staff in Tesco/ M&S into the jervis absolutely fcukin brilliant still doing a great job and still cool particularly the lady I saw controlling the social distance at the tills , 2 lads not quite getting g it she just quietly and calmly explained and fair play they both hopped to it.

Out for a run earlier and noticed a bunch of grandparents gathered around watching the grandkids playing football.

Wouldn't surprise me if the parents were none the wiser either, exactly a stunt the father in law would pull despite being told otherwise.

I have no reason to question the China numbers. They reacted brilliantly.
I doubt their schoolkids went skiing when the schools closed.

It's not easy.

Let's say you have 100,000 infected people in a population and now you enforce household lockdown, the infection is still going to spread within households. Italy has 2.58 persons/household so in theory the number of cases could get 2.5 times bigger even after lockdown (it will statistically be less because some of the original 100,000 already shared a household).

Couple that with the fact that a small number of people are almost certainly deliberately avoiding the lockdown, the many people are working in essential services that meet every day, and that even 'locked-down' people need to get out to chemists and supermarkets there will still be a small amount of inter-household spread going on.

Cousin works in Aer Lingus and they received an email this evening stating all staff will receive a 50% pay cut for 50% reduction in working hours for April, May and June.

E-mail stated it was fairer to do it this way than to make a lot of people redundant.

It seems pretty evident that the higher death rate in Italy is caused by insufficient testing, meaning that the reported case numbers are vastly understated.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was 200,000+ cases in Italy right now but the majority are going under the radar.

Its too early, we only have 6 in ICU. When that hits the 30 mark I think you'll see action. Thats giving loads of wiggle room to deal with new cases. How long are you willing to sit in your house with no work. How long can a country survive with no income just outgoings? People need to cool the jets. If you're really threatened go lock yourself down, no one is stopping you.

How about we keep our hardware shops open? I know that is not the most important thing but if we keep our hardware shops open and if we have to work at home or be at home for a period we can get paint from the hardware shop.

TBH I think many would be relieved to be given an order on this. Most are resigned to it by now and at least it applies to everyone.

Come on and do it.

Ensure the message gets out that visits to shops docs and chemists are not affected, and that shops are fully stocked every day. Get ahead and do it yesterday IMO.

Can I just say the amount of restaurants and food places that have come out to give us free meals to emergency service and hospital staff is amazing.
The amount of pizza's, indians, cakes, biscuits, and other food bits being dropped into us every day, we can't keep up with it!
