Stove for thatch cottage

    Hi there
    We have to replace our solid wood stove in our small thatch cottage to either oil or gas to mitigate the chances of fire as we cannot get insurance.
    Any recommendation? We also have electric storage heaters which are 14 years old and need to be replaced.
    Any advice/suggestion would be appreciated.

    An air to air heat pump could be a good solution here. There are quite a few posts on here about them - have a look around. They're cheap and easy to install (relative to gas and oil) and run of a standard electricity socket.

    Our family had to sell the thatch cottage because we couldn’t get insurance even without fires. Might be worth seeing if they will quote you regardless and whether they have a preferred system or one they give discounts for.

    Might you be able to get a SEI grant for the work or tax rebate if you do the oaperwork in advance of going ahead with the work and trying to get it retrospectively? Might be worth checking out and offset the pain of it a bit. Best of luck.
