I think as a country we are doing good .. majority of people and businesses playing ball on recommendations . All local businesses have implemented strict procedures on distances and amounts of people in shops.
Hairdressers, pubs , takeaways and shops that have had to close have done so.
Even people out walking are adhering to guidelines
Yes numbers will go up but if we as a whole continue following the guidelines the numbers should remain manageable.

Devastation. If you could all have a thought before making comments.

    Let's not be complacent here.

Of course....we need massive adherence to the current drastic measures, no let up whatsoever.

We're not even in the woods yet.

    This.

Were only at the start of it.

This needs to be drilled home.

    Look at Spain and Italy.

Sure no surprise, it has a population of 461. And you have to get there by helicopter ;)

I know so little about Leitrim I had to google their population to see if it's true

I think that comment is uncalled for. Many of us here are anxious about the safety of our nearest and dearest.

I also have many friends nursing in hospitals in Dublin.

6I ICU cases is 61 too many but thank God we are not seeing the death rates climbing to anything near Italian levels.

How their healthcare workers are coping is a real worry . .

I dont think so. A poster shows a bit of positivity and gets reprimanded over it.

We eill see this through. We will survive. Hopefully no more lives are lost.

I'm very thankful for the leadership our politicians have shown. After a slow start they have stepped up to the plate.

Also kudos to our frontline health workers and HSE leadership.

But a daily total means nothing without at least a 5 day trend. Look at Italy. We have to be in this for the long haul. Not getting too despondent when daily totals are high. Not talking nonsense that we'll have this beaten in 6 weeks when we have a, relatively, low daily increase.

366 cases now in Ireland, Leo reckons they're be 15000 by the end of the month, that's 13 days away!

Is leo just scaremongering or is that realistic?

So what I get from reading the last few posts we are fairly out of the woods (Thankfully). Assume everything back to normal on the 29th March?
Not a bit but we may have some clearer indication of what's happening to the curve. If that's encouraging May might look a little more hopeful but still a long way to go yet.

CMO says number of contacts that contact tracer are being told about has reduced

So does that mean that people who have it are self isolating and people are giving them a wide berth ? Or have I completely missed what the CMO is getting at.

We cannot have a change of government now, it would be madness.

We do need to close the border soon, slight concern of importing cases from mainland uk as they are starting to realize the ****e they are in.

Anyone know what is happening with post office collection of pensions and is it easy to change payment to bank transfer, need to help out family member and the local PO is jammed up usually?

to be honest we aren't doing nearly enough. we are nowhere near the lockdown of other countries. we closed pubs and schools, and gently encouraged people on social distancing. i'm not sure why we seem to be patting ourselves on the back. we are nowhere near what they are doing in spain, france and italy for example.

Well, the Taoiseach addressed this in his Monday press conference : he said he's not convinced people need to be quarantined to their houses or that it would be more effective than social distancing.

And yet our numbers are way lower. Why shouldn't we pat ourselves on the back?

our numbers are lower because we have a lower population.

Relatively good news today, a bit of a lift to the spirits, with due respect to those who are ill and have died.

I'd just be a tad concerned that complacency might set in. We have to keep this social distancing thing right up there for a good while to come.

Yes, as the testing ramps up, we are bound to see an increase in the number of people being tested positive for the virus. Important that we keep up our defences.

I don’t know if it’s just me but by God am I going to appreciate everything so much more when we see the end of this.

I cannot wait to be able to walk into a shop and browse aimlessly, as opposed to going in and grabbing what I need while trying to limit social contact as much as possible!!

I am thinking we will start looking to return to normal after the school Easter holidays.About 4.5 weeks from now.
    That's my guess!!!

China still isn't out of lockdown...nearly 2 months later. They are getting there...but not yet.

Based off that, & how strict their lockdown was vs ours, I'd expect schools back at the start of June if we're lucky.

That's a total without any real measures to mitigate it. It's from their current model and is a possibility not a certainty.
