Tony Holohan comes across as very knowledgeable, calm and collected.

I'm thankful it is him leading out the communications on this.

I have a feeling that most of the country are social distancing to the extreme which is closer to isolating themselves and there families.

But I’m guessing as I refuse to leave the house for longer then 5 min each day.

    Leitrim still has no cases.

    It's not a real place.

to be honest we aren't doing nearly enough. we are nowhere near the lockdown of other countries. we closed pubs and schools, and gently encouraged people on social distancing. i'm not sure why we seem to be patting ourselves on the back. we are nowhere near what they are doing in spain, france and italy for example.

Actually I would say the opposite..We haven't gone into full lockdown, yet shops, and the odd remaining cafe around me anyway are closing or heavily policing social distancing.Lines drawn on floors, X marks for people to stand on...only 2-4 people allowed in at a time. Many businesses have closed their doors voluntarily.

We can do better yes, but I would say we have taken the whole thing on board pretty well so far, particularly since Monday.

    Yes...

I was confused. 5/69 is well below 25 percent..

Folks are posting 25 percent increase...?

No that's wrong. Use the daily increase figure, not the difference between the two daily increases.

And yet our numbers are way lower. Why shouldn't we pat ourselves on the back?

That depends on how many we are actually testing in a particular day.

Interesting that the cases are 40% male and 59% female. Do the other 1% self identify as an ergonomic two-slice toaster now?

The 30% a day, going to 15,000 by the end of the month. It's the only official Irish figures that I've heard of. Do you know a better model?

I wasn't having a go. If I remember correctly you are the rteplayer github guy ?

I was just asking whether it was based upon incremental increses seen already in other countries.

As far as I am aware we have a little bit of a long finger testing regime. We haven't been lashing the tests out of it and the qualifiers have been set high up until quite recently. There's a lot in the system due to be tested and come back etc. There's also ongoing retesting. Neg Neg Positive can happen over 2 weeks.

Sure you'd need to have people in a county to have cases.

Im thinking its going to stand for us that we are a small Island, with containment, and contacting people who were in contact with infected people, being the two biggest challenges that can be best achieved within an island.

edit to also mention the people we have who are running the show, have to say any time they appear in public they seem to know what they are talking about - reassuring

So Tony Holahan announced there some of breakdown by county in Ireland etc.

Is this information published anywhere that we can read it?

    Any news outlet has it.

So what I get from reading the last few posts we are fairly out of the woods (Thankfully). Assume everything back to normal on the 29th March?

Not a chance, it would be stupid to not keep current measures in place

So Tony Holohan was asked about a third person dying, he said they had not been notified about this

Hard to believe that they wouldn’t be notified within minutes

I’m guessing that HSE figures are complied at 2pm or sometime everyday and that’s the figures he is sticking to his figures for other countries never match the update number either

With more tests available soon cases will go up much more.

But only 6 in ICU is the most encouraging statistic.

Go on Ireland. We’re doing really well. It’s there for the taking now. 6 weeks from now we should be back up and running I’d say.

It's one positive day for the ROI in a battle over months. Even if we do really well we are only as good as our neighbours. We still won't be able to travel to the UK, Spain, US, Italy etc.

    The recession will be global.

An awful lot of silly posts on here.

I am thinking we will start looking to return to normal after the school Easter holidays.About 4.5 weeks from now.
    That's my guess!!!

I'm not happy with hearing the amount of cases in Dublin. That's got me a little worried.

I would like to see the figures broken down into which town & village within each county have got cases to get a more detailed picture.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 701 ✭✭✭kilkenny31

How is 74 good news. Its 25% growth that means that roughly every 3 - 4 days the amount of cases will have more than doubled. I seen from England last week that sometimes they had a low number of cases but it still got out of hand. Even 10,000 cases could result in 300 deaths or more by the end of the month.

The way some people here are talking it feels like they are disappointed that the numbers are lower than expected.

That didn't hold in Iceland though.

I think some posters want more cases.

Obviously numbers of confirmed cases will rise but I think when this under control he will be viewed very well.
