With UK closing schools and not going ahead with exams. I wonder what measures will be taken in regards to Leaving Cert students this year.

I think LC will go ahead, but possibly delayed? I think JC may not go ahead.

No source for that, just what I think might happen!

The teachers want to remain on full pay. That's grand. Let's check in again in 12 months when the 2nd emergency budget is announced and all teachers get a 20% pay cut.

The least ye could do is work for Simon over the next six months.

Leave the teachers alone for God’s sake. The amount of teachers out there who are helping mind the kid’s of healthcare staff. I’m a teacher and my co workers aren’t at home on their arses most of them are out minding healthcare worker’s children.

My mum is a 66 year old retired nurse and has gone back to nursing today to help out , my sister is a qualified nurse but working as a teacher now and she has put herself forward to work in the hospital if they need her.

I would be more than willing to help out in anyway possible if schools remain close and so would many other teachers. So stop on about teachers!

Any chance the arguments over mass and religion can be posted to another thread instead of the main Covid 19 one?

    I don't think that's true?

I think this has been mentioned here before but it's worth repeating :

One of the differences between Germany and Italy is that Italy test for the virus posthumously, Germany doesn't.

In other words...a lot of dead Italian people test positively for the virus, but that doesn't always mean that they died of it just with it.
Germany doesn't test for this at all.

If this is true then the Italy figures may not be valid. Do we know the increase in numbers of deceased now in Italy?

Clearly this appears to be true but why is it? Considering the incubation period is 3-5 days in the vast majority of cases wouldnt one expect a huge reduction in number of new caes after this period?

The first hurdle to jump is to get out of exponential growth, which Italy is doing. There are still new cases, but as a % of the overall they are starting to flatten out.

Go here and click the 'logarathmic' option on the graph for new cases.

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/italy/

Compare to the same graph for USA - still showing very sharp upwards trend.

The restrictions are working for Italy. They will also work for us.

Well given the vast majority are over 70 that's also a given H. Few 70+ year olds aren't on some sort of medication for something. A lot of even 50 year olds are. I can think of four in my extended circle that are 50 or younger on statins, BP meds, diabetes meds and the like.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Is there any data of Italian deaths per day, pre corona? Trying to find some online but its awash with current corona related data.

So the UK are now panicking and trying to play catch up from the looks of it

I thought last week they made some "scientific plan" to immunize people on mass.
    Such gutless leadership.

Can't even stick to the convictions they set out in the first place.
Always have to be awkward and different. "We are UK we will fight it our way!"

Now they realized it's pure bull**** and they are so wrong but the damage has already been done.

Why wait Friday to close the schools. Close them now. What a mess.

Why are people so obsessed at what the U.K is or isn't doing? We have enough to deal with here; with an already shambolic health service, which is not free at the point of entry unlike the NHS.
People in Ireland should realise how badly served we have been for years with regard to the management our health service for generations.

Sorry if already posted (and can't delink first tweet, not trying to scaremonger)

Avoid ibuprofen for Covid 19 symptoms says World Health Organization

    https://www.france24.com/en/20200318-avoid-ibuprofen-for-coronavirus-symptoms-who-says

Can't find a source at the WHO to corroborate this.

Several sources stating it's one of the CV19 myths....

Anybody got anything from the WHO?

Frightening figures given in LA RAZÓN based on figures available to them

Caveat, figures relate to intensive care units only, LA RAZÓN has a track record for sensationalism. Strongly Conservative, possible agenda .

+4207 in Italy, 475 new deaths,
And the media were saying it's slowing there ????

literally the end of the world.

I see no end to this, no end ....

Over 10% of those infected require ICU and ventilation. They are not treating those over 60 in many regions. Triage. Not enough ventilators.

Big problem should we have an avalanche of people requiring ICU interventions in Ireland. Hence why its so important that people literally lock themselves away to taper any such high demand.

What’s with the constant bashing of teachers.
Why not spend your time praising the healthworkers or something more positive.

    Give over!

A "CR Adjustment" is a refund via a card transaction.

I'd argue irish are so obsessed with it because UKs failures ultimately will impact Irelands hard work and swift action.

They are putting multiple countries at risk with the stupidity of their decisions.

The Italian figures are still valid, they just can't be compared directly to the German ones. You could just as well say that the German figures are invalid.

As for your second question...no idea personally.
