I have not left house since Wednesday for reasons I don’t want to get into. It’s certainly not something to be envied. Also I can’t see my parents and it’s killing me.,don’t wish for something like that.

Also, fake news is instilling fear and needs to be disregarded. We need to do everything we can to mitigate this. Fighting amongst each other is not the best way.

Now we are on the same page!!!

My parents arent 60 yet(mother was 18 and unmarried when she had me:pac:...**** the church lol)..on the other side my kids granda is 70 something and is suffering from health issues...so im under no illusions what precautions to take.
I do envy others in "lockdown" because Im out and about doing my best to not bring home some poxy virus that could kill my kids granda while everyone else is at home safe and sound.

If they were really reasons you “didn’t want to get into” then you wouldn’t have mentioned them.

    ;)

I mentioned it because the poster said he envies people in self isolation. I don’t know why the winky face but I have come into contact for a reasonable length of time with someone who has tested positive and I worry what that means. Not really a winky face emoji type thing.

Please don’t just leave it like that

    What weirdos and where?
    to mention a few
someone tweeting saying their mother is on her way out (corona) and they are holding their hand.

people claiming to be with red cross and doring tests for €100

others putting ceder in their shoes to ward off corona, thats americans.

That deathbed one is seriously off

If any-one is going to the post office this week to sign their name on the electronic device to collect their payment you should wear disposible gloves while using the special black pen to sign, as hundreds of people use those same pens on a daily basis as of which are never cleaned. Just a heads up and one extra precaution.

    Oort.

Individual people have different thoughts and understanding in regard to others opinions, but the problem is this... there are some people out there that will do everything in their power to cut you off when they do not like your opinion even when it is truth.

So my ill conceived and badly thought out plan would be as follows.
Country including airports goes into a lockdown expect for critical front line staff.
A third of all healthy people including some frontline staff between 0 and 60 are packed off to hotels, barracks etc. Some people with the covid 19 virus are introduced, everyone shakes hands, cough, sniffle etc. until everyone has the virus, they stay there for 2 weeks until they recover. They can then go back to work, open shops, play sport. Over the next 4 weeks, the other 2/3 of the population under 60 are infected and recover. Normal life resumes. You would carry out a risk assessment on the rest of the population and infect those who are lower risk and who are willing. The remainder are given care to prevent them picking up the virus. Country back to normal by May

I presume you are unaware that Covid-19 can cause permanent lung scarring even in healthy individuals?

But does that not help you if others do self isolate so don’t put your loved ones at risk.

I was unaware of that until a couple a days ago because it was being said most people would just be “mild cases”.

    Sorry for the rant.

It is bizarre. Apparently people depend on interaction a lot. Luckily, I've been practising for times like these for the past few years. :D

As long as we stem the flow it'll be worth it eventually but I shudder to think about what governments are planning in the background to control the markets.

It does I've never said people shouldn't self isolate.
It's the hysteria online that I've a problem with.
    That's all.
Shouldn't be out getting pissed in pubs...shouldnt be out at horse races...shouldnt be doing anything unless it's needed like working and shopping for food.
Also shouldn't be posting on boards about x amount of deaths x amount of cases scaring the sh1t out of people

You are saying this as if they have a choice in the matter. As if they could be out doing essential work but they're choosing not to and just being lazy and selfish. They HAVE to self isolate to slow the spread. Most people don't want to be stuck at home all day either. Some no longer have a job. Your argument makes no sense. Schools are closed - this is how much staying home is needed.

Nobody should go out unless they have to go to work or buy essential supplies. Or go for a walk/run/cycle while they can.

I have to go to work - I don't begrudge people being in isolation when it's what is needed. It's a bizarre grievance. If anything i feel lucky I have a job.

The governor of Nevada has ordered all non essential businesses to close for 30 days. So just groceries, medicine, fuel and food (delivery or drive thru/take out only) will be available. So, its lockdown essentially. All gaming machines will be turned off at midnight , even those in those grocery stores and gas stations (yes they have those). Seeing all those machines gone black will be surreal. "Stay home for Nevada" is the slogan. I hope it works :(

I hope they do. if they are anything like most Illinoisans where I live it ain’t gonna happen. Words like “pathetic” “stoopid” were muted even today by people I met, about the bars and restaurants being closed and only deliveries or take out being made in the restaurants.

Having had a **** now I can say with clear-headedness that you seem like a nice lad who is doing their best in the face of all the sh!t going down. You appear to be copping on to the seriousness of this as time goes on. It's a shame it has to be this way and I can understand your reluctance to accept it at first. The whole thing is f*cking retardedly ruining the world and it's completely invisible. Until people are collapsing in the streets.

So thank you immensely for what you're doing working in logistics. Nobody would think any less of you if you backed away from it for a while. What you're doing is ballsy af, sound shkin.

    17/08/2020 new 389 deaths 8

    total new 2742 deaths 27

Testing there must have been very late catching up with their cases. I think that here, tomorrow will be when some of the people infected by Italian tourists last weekend start to manifest themselves in the numbers.

Sorry but we're containing it at this stage. We've gone long past mitigate. They're evacuating students from all student accommodations in Trinity with 48hrs to gtfo the country. They rolled out back slightly but they still have to be gone by tomorrow like, because it's going to be impossible to travel after that.
The whole thing seems excessive to me. And a bit surreal. And with each new bit of drama it seems like the population of the world is developing OCD.

If it was just people doing it I would say they are loons but it is also governments. They’d hardly be doing “lockdowns” unless it was really serious - they’d be “keep calm and carry on”.

Maybe this virus could be as bad as Spanish Flu and this is how to handle it.

Anyway that address to the nation lost whatever serious impact Varadkar intended but modelling the whole setup and the walk in on what the US president does when making “dramatic” announcements.

I can’t figure out which moment was worse - the “not all superheroes wear capes” bit or when he plagiarised Winston Churchill
Welcome to the thread :D I can get behind the criticism of the theatrics but I have to say, OCD means you're doing something compulsively... That is actually an advantage in this situation so that you keep surfaces clear of contamination. It actually sounds like something from an apocalypse film.

It's interesting to look at the stats for various countries. Finland has had a similar number of cases to us and 0 deaths : Spain, UK and NL are faring much worse (even allowing for population size).

A big hope is that the likes of us and Finland might be able to buck the European trend for both cases and fatalities. There are bound to be outliers during this pandemic, and God willing we are one of them.

Population densities may also help here and in a lot of the US. We've less dependence on public transport (which is usually a big downside environmentally) and our housing is generally much less dense than most.

This is gonna be (and has been within a week) the weirdest thing about this to us. We'll be living normally but we're gonna have to deal with a slew of peoplke who're all of a sudden not-grand. That's my takeaway from family chats so far anyway.

omg, how're you coping in Cork???

    Literally no change

I tend to visit family monthly, that's on-hold and that's the only change to be made apart from getting more used to being astonished at the shutdown and how well people are doing it.

I am finding this year a little surreal nearly.
Firstly we had the Sinn Féin surge.
Then we had loads of storms. Which was understandable.
Now we have this businesses, shops, pubs, schools closed, walking around Tesco is almost a military excessive, parades cancelled, No Audience on The Late Late Show and the DWTS final moving forward and it just keeps on going.
I even saw somebody writing a post giving out about Leo on Facebook tonight and people were defending Leo and the guy didn't know what to do.
    Sorry for the rant.

Reeling in the years 2020 could be an epic one
