    Ironically, it almost feels like we should thank Bertie, Anglo and the golden circle boys for the recession. We would still have the tiger and consume all we earn. Without NAMA transferring 2bln profit there would not be emergency sick pay or dole funds to help us drag through the current crisis.

    Well, it's only the 7th time a Taoiseach has addressed the nation so it's pretty important.
    When the leader of a country tells us calmly that this is going on and on and we don't know when it will end I think it's important.

    He basically said we have the capacity to help anyone in distress and that it will happen but we will recover but that there is a cost.

    He hit all the main points, social distancing, possible new measures dependant, listen to the experts not pricks on social media, look after each other but stay apart.
    He called out the ones who will battle and get us through it including transport providers, shop workers etc
    He mentioned schoolkids and what they can do to help looking at many months of no school.

    The nitty gritty to help people is already in motion and it better be big enough to help people through this.
    I'm sure we'll hear all about the main measures in the next day or so.

    And I say this as a self topranked hater of FG and it's ideology - He did what needed doing in that broadcast.
    The next few days with detailed assistance measures will be the time to criticise if they fall short.

    Don't bother, it came into the country primarily from Irish people returning from Italy so even if they had planned to shutdown flights we would have had to take our citizens back

    Yeah my sister who has asthma is forced to come to work even though she can work from home.

    I would hope that we can foresee vast changes in the Airline Industry from this.

    In particular, I want to see Health systems put in place as currently exist for "terrorism".

    The actions of a very select few mean that ALL of us have to suffer the horrendous hassle of security checks.

    I await the same with regard to health checks on both egress and ingress passengers.

    Think how quickly this virus has become pandemic, compared to how long it took for the Plague to spread from Genua etc.

    The economic and health implications of Covid-19 will last for a long long time.

    Didn't Italy ban flights from China on January 31st and still ended up in an almighty mess? Would it have been impossible to make it from Italy to Ireland even if he had banned flights. Did anywhere else ban flights coming in from Italy?
