Lol not sure I'm the one freaking out!

I rarely eat fast food but there's tens of thousands of people employed in restaurants fast food or otherwise in the country, a lot of these can safely work but change to delivery or collection only. It would achieve nothing if they were able to do that but we're shutdown.

I think some people just want to see a total lockdown for the novelty of it rather than thinking rationally about what needs to be closed and what can be kept open safely

China kept up food deliveries during their lockdown. Apparently there isnt much risk of transmission through food, especially if its reheated before eating. If proper precautions about contact are adhered to during the delivery process then I dont see why chippers and the like can't continue to operate.

We won't know until the weekend if the measures taken last Thursday have slowed the pace.

Yeah, I have heard the experts say that. But surely you would have to control the conditions to make sure you can compare results? . Would the sudden input of any additional cases from Cheltenham or returnees from Spain not complicate your control data? How can you be sure of a result that takes a base level from a specific date when the circumstances changed after it?

With the kids off school and people isolating and staying indoors you'd think the likes of RTE would start throwing on a few kids movies during the day and better day time viewing

They had at least two on today on RTE1, but could do a few during week days alright

Anyone living in Dublin CC, whats it like there? Really quiet today I would imagine?

I drove by the North Quays past O'Connell Street at about 4pm. The traffic was heavy enough. There were people about drinking in cafes that type of thing. It didn't look packed or anything but there were groups definitely not demonstrating social distancing by any means. Phoenix Park was jammers with cars and people but it is outside of course so reduces the risk somewhat. I wouldn't risk it though with those numbers.

What will the government's emergency legislation entail. Is this being intorcduced so the government can put the country into "Lock down" as they weren't before due to the lack of power. The power to detain etc will mean they have a lot more power now to enforce a "lockdown".

I’m not afraid of the virus because thankfully I’m young and healthy, but I’ve recently started a new job and I’m worried how things play out over time and hope I’m not let go.

I can work from home, but I’ve a friend who has recently bought a house and was let go of their new job, so scary times.

In the event of a complete shutdown how long could essential services be expected to run for?

essential services haven't stopped in any country, it's not something thats going to happen.

An infection control experiment that was rolled out in a small Italian community at the start of Europe’s coronavirus crisis has stopped all new infections in the town that was at the centre of the country’s outbreak.

Through testing and retesting of all 3,300 inhabitants of the town of Vò, near Venice, regardless of whether they were exhibiting symptoms, and rigorous quarantining of their contacts once infection was confirmed, health authorities have been able to completely stop the spread of the illness there.

Possible that the virus had already infected anyone readily susceptible to it? Which would be even better news in a way...

If say 50 cases were discovered 2 weeks ago, and 50 cases discovered today, does that mean we have 50 active cases, as the first 50 are now recovered.

I keep seeing people say we how have 292 cases, but how can you keep adding up the cases of 14 days ago when they are recovered? Surely we how have over a 100 recovered?

World figures here incl Ireland https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

AFAIK you need to test negative 3 consecutive days in a row to be deemed recovered.

    On this website https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

We have 292 cases, 285 active cases, 2 deaths, 5 recovered and 6 critical

Who cares? How many deaths have they had? That tells more of a story.

Well deaths are also being misrepresented. A ma who tested positive for COVID 19 today had the death labelled as gastro intensetinal cause

Belgium joins the full lockdown club from tomorrow noon.
Only food shops, chemists, post offices and banks will remain open.

Our recovery numbers are practically 0 (5) That's crazy, countries with same amount of cases , Singapore have 114 recovered.
Why is no one recovering ?

Silvio Berlusoni has donated €10,000,000 to Lombardy hospitals! Bravo!

That's 0.2% of his $5,700,000,000 Net Worth (Forbes)

Or ~ €50 for a person on an average Italian net annual salary.

    Mediaset Trial (convicted):
    Estimated €62,000,000 total tax fraud

I’ve seen similar in relation to other celebrities. If they had no symptoms then why were they tested??? Was he in Italy/Chins/Spain???

It's like footballers, these people are million dollar assets. They all get tested symptoms or not.

Well yes maybe but that just means you are saying to the rest you are okay. See this is the reason I have a problem with giving out counties. The country has it and that should make you prepared enough to do what you have to
