    A number of months? 2? 3? 4?

10/12 weeks to peak is the estimate. We may do better with the right measures. The potato caught us on the hop, we may get a handle on this quickly I hope.

I didn't fully get what he wanted - does he want to leave NY come back here to 'help out' then return to his job in NY again?
I'd presume if he takes a job in HSE would just hand in letter of resignation in NY? Why would he need a gov document for that

It sounds like he was looking for certain guarantees regarding his future before he came home to help. He didn't come off well at all and sounded extremely arrogant.

He was also complaining that an email he sent just two days ago wasn't responded to, which simply compounded my initial reaction to him.

He may well be sound. But that didn't come across in that Skype call.

FFS, there's been 140,000 people just laid off of their jobs here at the moment and he's looking for Simon Harris to give him some sort of future promise.

Trying to watch Claire Byrne, but fkn ell if that RTE player isn't bloody shite.

It's so unnecessarily bad isn't it? Did they build it from the ground up? It acts different to every video player I use. Why? Why reinvent the wheel? The worst funded websites in the world all have functioning video players with a predictable UI.

Me:I think I will mute the sound, move mouse to sound symbol,
RTE player: Oohhh ill expand the volume thing for you there and move the sound symbol you were going to click on over to the left.
RTE player: Oh I'm Paused, I'll show a pause symbol when I'm paused as opposed to a play symbol, just to confuse you a bit more.
RTEPlayer: Oh changing the window size? Wait here's the ads again.

I think Simon Harris is handling things very well. Seems to be straight talking and realistic.

    Same here.

Leaving politics aside, I'm inspired by the recent government statements.

I'm looking at it from a different angle than most here, I'm part of defence forces effort and if people could see the huge commitment going on behind the scenes they'd be awestruck.

There's a massive, I can't put it into words, I've never seen the DF mobilize like this and its amazing. But that aside, we're all this together. I keep stressing this but if people can leave aside their differences with the present government and adhere to the HSE, Dept of Health, government and its agencies guidelines we can flatten the curve.

This is like something we've never seen before, we're in this together and together we'll get through this.

Don't think your efforts are too small to make a difference, every effort makes a difference.

He was being a ****. There's nothing stopping him from coming home if he's that eager to help. He's a doctor ffs, he could walk into any job in any location. He doesn't need a note from the government.
Actually, he does need a note as he is on a training program and the note will allow to him finish the program when this is all over. If he quits now he can't finish his training.

Ah jesus for once just give it over.

    Why?
Nothing has changed. He won't save you. The reason we end up in a loop of incompetent politicians is because the general public just forgive, forget, realise their error and then repeat again.

If this virus gets bad we are in serious trouble. And with these failures at the helm by default we are screwed. Completely

Failures who pulled us out of the mire after 2008? Best economy in EU? Best welfare system in EU? Trolley crisis is a myth as is homeless crisis.

If they are failures we are rightly fcucked!

There is widespread public support for Government efforts. We only have to look at Italy, Spain the UK and US to see the colour of poor leadership and indecision.

    He has crowns disease aswell.

He'd be gone quickly if he contracts the virus.

Do you mean Crohn's disease? And if so where are you seeing evidence of Covid19 wiping out people with Crohn's? If it's a sweeping assumption, maybe be a bit more careful due to people reading here with that condition.

I saw virtually no politicians, either in FG or in opposition, initially treat the virus with the seriousness it merited.

That out of the way, if Simon Harris is now stepping up to the plate, and actually getting down to business, I support him and wish him the best of luck.
