Jut came across this thread this evening....

Regarding the bad winter flu season.... I would be fairly certain that as soon as covid -19 was recognised, typed and individually identifiable that somebody would have went down to medical records in nearly every hospital and pulled out a random selection of blood samples from hospitalised people over the winter and had a look....

Work. Luckily my job is 99.9%isolated from contact with other people. As Long as I can get from my car to my work space without interacting with anybody. which is fairly easy in my case.

Not sure if a blood sample would work. Nasal swab is what's used.

The largest economy in the world shut it's self down for 2 months to fight a virus that largely kills the elderly, and it would appear to be winning that fight, they posted a lower infection rate today than we did despit them no doubt testing thousands more people.
We in the western world are too selfish to do the same, we love our sky sports and a few jars on the weekend to much.

You'll be an old man one day too.
Yet according to many here they are a ruthless dictatorship. Maybe you've missed something?

I mean that someone posted a pic of the Madrid metro packed with people saying they were not really on lockdown, it was obviously and old photo.
This is how it really was today.

That's hardly 'packed'. And it looks spotlessly clean - good job Madrid Metro!

I'm sure you you could have take a very similar picture on the LUAS or DART this morning, what's your point?

a cough - this can be any kind of cough, not just dry
    shortness of breath
    breathing difficulties
    fever (high temperature) or chills

    She seems ...fine?

Have to ask, why the shed though? Did she think we’d be nosing at her decor

When will they just seize the private hospitals?

When necessary. In one site vulnerable public patients have already been transferred to a nearby private hospital. The private hospitals are cooperating fully as they should.

Why are we not seeing the overall death rate figures. Who is hiding figures from us. I get they weren't all infected the same day but surely hundreds of thousands must have been infected a few weeks ago.

    Well yeah. Maybe.
There's just no way of measuring it.

My girlfriend is from Northern Italy. She has a bunch of mates in a town called Romano, and according to them pretty much everyone seems to have/had it.
Two of her mates parents have died.

That is just anecdotal evidence and should be treated as such. I've no idea about the true scope of the outbreak in Italy.
