Anyone else getting depressed by the bleak news on economy? You know, people losing their jobs, airlines possibly going bankrupt by end of May etc.? I am trying to stay optimistic but the way things are going, I'm starting to wonder whether it would be better to just catch corona and kick the bucket than end up living on the streets by the end of this year.

Here's a quick one, the mother inlaw is currently living with us,
(Which is bad enough) Her brother is unwell and in Beaumont hospital (not corna ) she wants to go visit tonight , is it a good idea ?
I'm worried sick if she catches something and brings it home and then I pass it on to my own parents who would be very vulnerable to the virus ,

Unless he is terminally ill make sure she stays far away from the hospital. Tie her down if necessary.;)

Surely, the World Health Organisation (WHO) must have thought of the likelihood that local officials in China would cover-up the first diagnoses in the event of a dangerous virus breaking out. So why didn't the WHO advise that travel to and from China be suspended as soon as suspicions arose?

Why has the WHO let the Chinese government dictate to it?

China is now a major donor country to multilateral organisations. As Trump has pulled American money from these orgs, China has stepped in with the cash.

Boris is paying particular attention to London. Mass gatherings won’t be supported be emergency workers according to him.

YES. As a self-employed person it is scarier than the virus itself. I need that jacks roll!!!

The danger in the UK is that I feel they're always on the precipice of serious civil unrest, which is really quite bizarre for a Western country.

It definitely needs to be baby steps or they'll start looting.

Wild-animal wet-markets are widespread in China, not just in Wuhan. If a blind eye is being turned, it's being turned at a national level.

It's very odd seeing Irish people parrot the ancient and well-worn Chinese political canard that the local functionary is corrupt but the Emperor and his circle are beyond reproach. Just goes to show that Beijing's propaganda efforts are paying dividends.

Propaganda is in the eye of the beholder.

    They haven't changed anything.

They're clearly still going the herd immunity route, it's just by telling people they should self isolate they're also covering themselves from people that think that's the route they should take.

There'd be a closure of schools etc if they were rolling back.

They've clearly been advised that this is the best approach for them. Nothing new has come to light in the past 48 hours for them to change that stance.

This is gone well past China now, its in the back yard banging at the door but if it makes you feel better keep talking about China.

We all need to learn how to grow our own vegetables.

And 4 months later you might be able to harvest and eat them. Meanwhile, you will still need to buy vegetables until then.
