Dont think eradicating the virus is impossible and likely the only viable option in the long term. Would take years tho

Certainly possible, we did it for smallpox, but it took years, a really good vaccine and a global commitment. And smallpox was far less virulent (in terms of epidemic potential) than covid-19 and it still took 25 years (1950-1975) of global effort.

Can't they give you a prescription anyway? I got a message from GP saying they will handle repeat prescriptions via email. Can you email the consultant?

Just post a script to me?

Dr Gabriel Scally on RTE radio atm. He is honorary professor of public health at the University of Bristol.

    Speaking about the UK strategy....

    'strategy based on appalling science'

    'strategy based on mathematical formula'

'strategy is to let the virus rip'

    'the fuse is burning'

'if UK is right, the rest of the world is wrong'

'travel between Ireland/UK should be minimised/restricted'

University of Limerick said it could end up becoming an isolation unit if hospitals are overwhelmed. Expects to be closed until at least mid june.https://www.limerickpost.ie/2020/03/16/university-of-limerick-likely-to-become-location-for-covid-19-field-hospital-if-hospitals-become-overwhelmed/

The Universities with contiguous campuses would make good spots for this in fairness. UCD would be perfect in Dublin - Few thousand student residences on-site and many of the teaching buildings have long wide corridors with classrooms and offices that aren't too dissimilar to hospital wards if you toss out the desks. Kitchens and cafes to feed everyone. Car parking. Can see this happening in a pinch.

Tell them to piss off until this crisis is over. Good luck to them getting an eviction enforced. We've been through this before, remember.

I agree, they will have no audience to complain to so tell them they will get paid when you get paid.

If you can't get the consultant revert to GP.
    Take action now.

Is there any point overwhelming GPS with calls at this stage

    The info is out there

You have to contact your GP. They are the first response mechanism in evaluating symptoms. Don't be going and reinventing the official system spreading misinformation and causing an unnecessary strain on the system.

Clusters in Tesco, Aldi, Dunnes, Lidl, Spar ...

Wherever people gather in clusters, transmission is obviously possible!

People still walking around, cycling in tight clusters, teens hanging around also.

What kind of an army doesn't have tanks?!
One that doesn't need to go blasting shells of freedom all over the place.
Sorry, it's just that I'm from a country where the police carries guns routinely and an army that has tanks and fighter jets.
    So?

OK. I am showing symptons of the virus and have been ringing the HSE contact number to try to arrange a test but have been put on hold for ages. Anyone else experiencing this?

Would be good to post updates about how you get on with that. I keep hearing that the whole testing situation is a pure disaster.

There was a storm on Irish social media overnight saying basically that hot news from a secret army meeting was that there would be troops on the streets and lockdown by 11:00am today.

But here's the problem, given what is happening in Spain/France/Italy now, there would be people shrieking on social media that the government wasn't taking this seriously and was putting us all in danger if they didn't have current plans for how to implement lockdowns and curfews!
