    Pictures and videos of packed or busy public transport need to circulate before the govt take action. Pubs only shut because of the outrage caused by that video in temple bar, the government's hand was forced.
    Get your phones out folks and take a pic and post on social media platforms.

    I still can't believe the things people believe. I could literally start a WhatsApp message saying using twice as much toilet roll the clean your arse protects you from Coronavirus and it'd be shared and believed by thousands.

    I spent a day of the weekend as the COVID admitting doctor in a large centre in Ireland. Mostly old people coming in, mostly people not too sick, but there absolutely are VERY sick people interspersed with the rest. And there are the odd very sick young person. It's not completely a disease of old people, and despite the stats saying most young people recover, seeing a 21 year old unable to breath without oxygen is still sobering enough.

    I've been thinking the same since the US got caught out. Whole world in the same struggle. Makes little sense for even those at the top to call in their debts as the little worker bees need something to hope for. Take that away and productivity just stops and the top 1% can no longer profit from our labours.

    Are the 20,000 people being brought back from Spain going to be tested/quarantined on arrival? If not that could end up adding to our problems.

    I suggested this a while ago. Universal Basic Income. Trial it now nationally. Just get it done. This week. Those who can work from home and earn just pay more tax on their UBI portion to recoup some. Same for those who can safely go to work. Those on welfare now, pensions, farm supplements etc etc, get transferred to UBI. Those who will be on short hours or no hours get a UBI to survive on.

    Don't start with the where is the money going to come from stuff. Money is printed already as a non fiat backed way of keeping the cogs oiled in the system. UBI just gets rid of stigma and gives regular people a share in the wealth injections normally reserved only for the already rich and powerful.

    I see Tulsi is pushing for it in the US. Good for her. Plus can I please have some of whatever she is drinking to make her look ever more fabulous as time goes on !! :)

    We need the leaders of all political parties to make a joint statement on where we are and where we are going. This uncertainty is causing unnecessary panic in the population. Strangely the elderly whom it will likely impact the most are the calmest right now. I see JCB are going to manufacture ventilators for the UK. We need to source more of them too as I gather that's the only treatment that's effective.

    Do people think our society will go back to normal after this or will it restructure how we live?

    I feel this is only going to add to the Nationalist wave that is sweeping the world. I wonder if the world can ever go back to Normal. This is different to anything that has gone before. I just have a bad feeling about this. The ECB needs to start printing money now and give it to governments across europe to keep cash flowing or financial strain will begin to have a social impact.

    What happens when landlords come looking for €1500 rent off tenants that don't have it. These are the things that start to create tension. People are in shock now but that will wear off and a new reality will set in.
    I personally think something like the Emergency act is needed soon (next 2 weeks) that is comprehensive and deals with every sector of scociety effected by this. If not, people will have too many unanswered questions and fear will cause them to act differently to before.

    Everyone landing is being given a information sheet advising them to self isolate, we cant do anything more unfortunately as 20k is just too many to quarantine

    Agreed. I believe only thing we can do is pause all these kinds of charges for 3-6 months, and try to restart in the autumn. Rates, rent, repayments, that's what killed so many businesses in the crash: with no cashflow, static overheads are fatal.

    Sadly a lot of people are uninformed/dumb as rocks[delete as applicable] when something comes along outside the routines of their everyday life. This goes double when they're in the worried but in denial stages. I've seen this over the last week in people who are normally anything but thick.

    Jesus N, I know it can't be easy, but stay safe yourself. I can't begin to imagine the stress or the courage you guys on the front lines have.

    Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

    Probably be advised to follow the same guidelines as those who came back from Cheltenham. We can't realistically quarantine or test 20,000 people quickly.

    I think it will embolden autocrats worldwide unfortunately. Xi Jinping is already doing a victory lap even though his rule by fear regime created the problem (not to mention we have no idea if the Chinese numbers are reliable).

    All this "the army is going to lock down the country" talk is pure b0ll0x. The army isn't large enough to do anything of the sort.

    They are mobilising to assist the hse and other government bodies. There will be no men in camo with guns in the streets

    that's the point anyone who researchers this stuff is suddenly looking at covid 19. a number of treatments will combine out . vaccine trials are rumoured to start in a couple of weeks or even days if you believe the American press.
