Yes... I know he does ‘something’ on a regular basis to do with wildlife.

Wasn't Mooney appointed 'Head of RTE Nature and Wildlife' or something like that, when he had to depart the afternoon show for D'Arcys return in 2015!!!?

This was just another way of RTE telling us that he has a cushy number in RTE..dipping in and out of Mooney goes wild for half of the year, including The dawn chorus in May.

He is one of the highest paid staff presenters.

I somehow think he had no choice but to take the Covid 19 fill in shows for over the next few weeks...RTE should use their resources much more like this.

Although pity Neil Doherty is doing the Saturday afternoons....

This wad just anothervway of has a cushy number in RTE and dips in and out of Mooney goes wild and The dawn chorus. He is one of the highest paid staff members.

He was anyway... he’s hardly on the big wedge now given his lack of ‘air time’ on any channels??

Nothing against the lad, though.

I'm sure RTE staff presenters salaries dont decrease, just because their air time does.

Mooney is a big union man in RTE...

You'd wonder why Cahill (Des and Hugh) and Cantwell (Joanne) can't come in for a few hours and spin some discs to while away the day, nor to mention their six figure contracts.

I had Derek Mooney on for a while yesterday and I have to say that he was the right person for Mother's Day. Not everybody likes him but he was having fun and was easy on the ear.

Yeah but on a freelance or contract basis I'd say. Reason he can do cricket for bbc among other outside gigs, doubt a staffer would be in that position. Of course i could easily be wrong.

Probably because they can't have guests in the studio to debate things.
If they did it over the phone it would be like an episode of Liveline (with a professional presenter).

Dee Forbes did say the sports dept resources would be spread around the station so rest assured Joanne, John, Darren et al will be very busy combing through their cd collections in anticipation of a cosy half hour with Des.
