It’s hard to get good staff..... slightly off topic department.

This mornings ‘It says in the papers’.

Golfer Shane Lowry “blowing a five point lead in the US Open”

Grainne Seoighe’s wedding dress embroidered with over a thousand “sequences”.

    Hard to get good staff.

I see Marty M and Will Hannafin lined to come off the subs bench for the New Year.

"And next, Brenda Donoghue meets the people who work at Barrack Obama Plaza, all day and all night".

What?? Let me get this right, you are doing a radio documentary on somebody who works in a petrol station?

Be nice; for Brenda's standards this is National Geographic level material.

So as the new decade dawns, the stars are mostly still sleep, who are our heroes, impact subs.

Carol Moran saved us from the ‘roundy birthdays’

Smug Phil struggled in for the hour of blandness that passes for Drivetime.

Auld Turnip Head came under the spotlight for the New Year.

Oliver Callan getting a toe hold out in Cossett land.

The Omen took over from SOR....did quite well

Bobby Short did the News at One.... can’t figure out why he doesn’t get more similar gigs.

Kathryn treated the guy who is for ‘fitness’ what Nevin is to ‘cooking’ almost permanently in Montrose,

Karl Henr, with the respect of a minor deity.

And it’s only Jan 1.The high rollers have a lot of sleep to catch up on.

Pass the WD40 there Billy, this unit is beginning smoke a bit.

Good to hear RTE have sense in having a staff presenter on today Derek Mooney while the sport is off, instead of the 'celebrity' or contracted presenters they usually draft in

Yes... I know he does ‘something’ on a regular basis to do with wildlife.

    Did a good job today.

Great to hear Derek back on the radio. He is a great presenter and you would sort of wish that he took an RTE holiday (i.e. the regular two months) instead of packing in the job altogether. Such a waste having him sitting on the benches, while having D'Arcy out on the pitch running towards his own goal with the ball.

Wasn't Mooney appointed 'Head of RTE Nature and Wildlife' or something like that, when he had to depart the afternoon show for D'Arcys return in 2015!!!?

This was just another way of RTE telling us that he has a cushy number in RTE..dipping in and out of Mooney goes wild for half of the year, including The dawn chorus in May.

He is one of the highest paid staff presenters.

I somehow think he had no choice but to take the Covid 19 fill in shows for over the next few weeks...RTE should use their resources much more like this.

Although pity Neil Doherty is doing the Saturday afternoons....

He was meant to be going off making loads of radio and TV stuff about wildlife, but it seems that it didn't materialize. He was on big money though, over 200K the last time I saw it.

He was anyway... he’s hardly on the big wedge now given his lack of ‘air time’ on any channels??

    Nothing against the lad, though.

I'm not sure the wages went down Bren. We'd have to see the most recent wages list.

I'm sure RTE staff presenters salaries dont decrease, just because their air time does.

Mooney is a big union man in RTE...

NT, RTE and even WLR locally all off-tape today. You'd have thought they'd have carried on as per in the circumstances.

Michael Cahill in today for saturday sounds

Not off to the best of starts. Can only go upwards from here, though.

You'd wonder why Cahill (Des and Hugh) and Cantwell (Joanne) can't come in for a few hours and spin some discs to while away the day, nor to mention their six figure contracts.

John Kenny doing a rock show on Radio 1...10pm tue, wed and thurs

I had Derek Mooney on for a while yesterday and I have to say that he was the right person for Mother's Day. Not everybody likes him but he was having fun and was easy on the ear.

John Kenny was on last week too. Nice to see at least one of their well stocked sports dept earning his keep. Dont think he's a staffer, though.

I'm pretty sure he is. Been with RTE since 1987.

I think so too, lives in the Naas area I believe.

Tends to do the obscure sports like cricket, hockey, swimming, that kind of stuff.

Has done some GAA commentary’s and LOI if I recollect and is quite passable.

    That’s about all I know.

Yeah but on a freelance or contract basis I'd say. Reason he can do cricket for bbc among other outside gigs, doubt a staffer would be in that position. Of course i could easily be wrong.

JK a man of many talents, writes a weekly motorsport column for The Star as well as his radio exploits which go back to the pirate days. New music show was very enjoyable last week, back again tonight. Strange how The Late Debate has been taken off the air in the current climate, not shortage of material for them to talk about.

Aaah.....was wondering why Lally was horsing around North Co Dublin again.

Didn’t know JK did gigs for the BBC on the cricket.

Every day is a school day, as they say.

John Kenny has had a show on RTE 2XM digital radio for the past 10 years or so. The JK Experience.

Probably because they can't have guests in the studio to debate things.
If they did it over the phone it would be like an episode of Liveline (with a professional presenter).

DriveTime cut short for next few weeks...
...so.."Des's Island Discs" (Des Cahill) on at 6.30 daily..First guest George Hamilton !!

Dee Forbes did say the sports dept resources would be spread around the station so rest assured Joanne, John, Darren et al will be very busy combing through their cd collections in anticipation of a cosy half hour with Des.
