    Overdue, what the wait?

Because of eu261. They had no cover from the government and would paid out a fortune on compo.

The airports should have been closed and all flights suspended two weeks ago.
Cheltenham should also have been called off as well as any large event. Meetings, masses, concerts etc including schools.

    Better safe than sorry.

Maybe they have to fly there to bring people home...

Suspect forward bookings are flat, the no shows happening at the moment are still revenue to the airline.

Assume Aer Lingus etc will follow suit pretty quickly.
Aerlingus done same but only up until 3rd April

Airlines had to fly, or loise their spot, until the DFA announcement. Now insurance covers the stopped flights and not airlines.

Interesting, I was looking into travel insurance and got this info:
....there is no scope for cover if you cancel or cut short your trip due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. There is also no scope for cover if the Department of Foreign Affairs advise against travel to your destination, or if the airline / travel provider withdraws its service. Please contact your airline / travel provider to enquire what options are available in relation to refunds and / or trip alterations.

This would mean you're insurance is void for travel to Italy, or if you're staying in the same place and in that time the travel advisory quickly changes...

    Hi all,
We're due to travel to Italy towards the end of June.

What do you think the likelyhood is we'll be able to go by then? Obviously hard to say but I don't want to give up hope yet, we've been so looking forward to the holiday!

It’s a real pain with travel insurance. I understand they’re in business and are there to make a profit but it really is an impossible situation.
We’re due to travel to Argentina in about 4 weeks and in turn from there we’re planning on going to Uruguay and on to Iguazu Falls in Argentina. I’ve absolutely no problem in travelling but it’s very possible that museums and galleries could be closed and activities we’re planning could be cancelled. Equally we’ll be talking a huge chance that ferry and flight connections will work to schedule as if they don’t all our plans will be out the window. And to be even more pessimistic there could be a lockdown in anyone of the four hotels we’re staying in.
What I’m saying is what’s the actual point of going as any of these things are real possibilities. The annoying thing is that if we decide not to go then we loose the flights cost which is nearly €3000.

You should ask paddy Power for odds on that. You'll make a fortune.

I was about to book flights last week and begin planning this year's few trips, but I'm in a holding pattern at the moment because of the virus. There is just far too much uncertainty in the industry right now for me to commit money and time to planning something which there is a good chance will be cancelled.

Unless a miracle happens and Covid spread starts subsiding dramatically in the next month, I think 2020 will be quiet year for me travel-wise. I had planned on my third trip to Iceland in 2 years. Never mind 'planned', I've thought about it for most hours of each day since I got home from my last trip. I don't think it's going to happen this year though.

Maybe this is an opportunity for me to visit some places in Ireland which are still on my list.

I'm booked to fly to Bari on April 3rd but haven't heard anything about cancelling it from Ryanair yet. Anyone have their flight cancelled yet?

2 emails today, was due to fly to Treviso next weekend. One has been refunded, the refund link in the second email isn't working so will follow that up tomorrow

Just a quick one. I rang 123.ie to change my travel cover from Europe to Worldwide. It will entail a new policy and the underwriters, RSA, are not quoting for new business. Down to the virus according to the rep.

Just looking for the general consensus here - Due to travel to a Eurocamp destination outside Barcelona with the family on May 28th . They're looking for the balance of the holiday now - €900 odd. Should I pay and hope for the best or cut my losses now (already forked out €1000 odd on flights/ deposit etc). We have travel insurance so as far as I'm aware if the Dept. Foreign Affairs issue a 'no travel to Spain' recommendation we should be covered..... I know it's a risk either way , just wondering what the majority would do. Thanks in advance !!

In a very similar position, going to the same place in june..was onto them this morning and they were willing to push out our 'pay by date'for a further 2 weeks or will push out date of travel without penalty. They are allowing people up to 60 days before to canx and loose only the 99e deposit. Might give you an extra week or 2 to decide. If theres a travel ban they will refund completely. You'll have to ring their cork number to arrange. Guy.on phone said.to ring rather than email as they are being inundated at the moment. It's a right mess. We stand to loose 1k on the flights which we wont get back but we have 3 high risk individuals so think we will end up canx anyway...

If it was me I wouldn't pay it.
Is it possible you can still use your flights and stay somewhere else instead?

I have flights booked to Malaga at the start of April, I'm going to lose over 1500 euro on flights and accommodation if I cancel now, but I'm still waiting it out for a while to see what happens.
But if I could get only half of that back now and lose the rest I would take that option and cut my losses.

Truth is nobody knows what's going to happen.

At the moment all countries are trying to avoid becoming the "Next Italy" so expect restrictions to increase rapidly over the next 2 weeks.

Everyone has to make there own judgement call on this.

The costs of cancelling an upcoming holiday will be small compared to the potential of becoming infected.

At the same time if you're cancelling a holiday and yet you're traveling on packed buses/trains everyday to get to work, or you're going to concerts or shows or social occasions with large numbers of people then you're also risking becoming ill, the only difference is you won't get quarantined in a different country....

I have a holiday booked in Portugal for late May.Today was the day to pay for the accomadation. I ran up and explained that i wouldn't be able to pay today under the current uncertainty and if they wanted to cancel that i understood.
They were very understanding and offered to not take any payment till 2 weeks before holiday and will still keep it reserved for us.
we've booked the same apartment 6 times with this company so I guess we're valued customers but I was still impressed with their response.
Others in our group who have already paid have now taken out some sort of insurance, don't know the exact details but they'll get a full refund if unable to travel, all for 39e.

Flying to Barcelona on Friday and back on Tuesday. I've prepaid the hotel so can't cancel, but I emailed them and they said I can re-arrange and they'll honour it up til end of the year, so only thing it might cost me is the flight re-arrangement fee.

Should I re-arrange or just go this weekend? They said it's calm there atm and everything is still open for business.

I'm due to pay the balance of our holiday to Majorca tomorrow, €2500. I would be immunocomprimised but not sure what's best. Deposit of 600 has been paid.
I contacted them (TUIholidays) today to see if there is anything that can be done, either delay payment or hold the deposit.
I got a generic terms and conditions reply & no resonable offer to accomodate anything else..
They will defer the final payment but would require 50% be paid tomorrow & the balance in 2 weeks. Hardly much good to me. The only other option would be to amend the holiday & go somewhere else later in the year. they'll charge 200 for that plus the cost of the new holiday. Problem is all their holidays are more expensive now then when we booked so likely cost a lot more.

For now my plan is to cancel the holiday, take the 600 deposit hit & if things look better in the summer then we'll book a last minute holiday & hopefully it will work out ok.

Again, take every precaution, just the same as you would on public transport, in crowded areas, pubs/restaurants at home.

Your risks are with an escalating situation is delays to your flights or closures of accommodation, so have a backup plan in place..

I would not go this weekend. Spanish cases are about a week behind Italy. Barcelona has many cases. Would you have flown to Italy a week ago?

You would think travel agents would allow delaying payment considering whats happening.
If they don't delay payment I cancel & there is no hope of getting a new booking to replace it.
If they delay payment & things get worse & I cancel it's the same difference. If things look ok I would pay the balance & go.

Has anyone been on a Ryanair flight recently? Are they disinfecting surfaces before / after each flight or just leaving it to chance?

Obviously I will be bringing my own wipes to do it anyways, but would be nice to know that they are trying to help some bit. But it is Ryanair....

    Are you an aircraft?

I'm due to fly to Singapore with Etihad and fly home form Philippines with a stop over in Thailand on budget airline's I'm between... leaving on 1st of April.

I'm not asking wether or not should I go. I'm asking if anyone predicts that Etihad, Singapore or Philippines will likely put in measures where it means I'm not allowed to go.

I'm currently of the opinion that by the time I'm meant to be going, my flights will be canceled or Singapore will impose a flight ban.

To Rome, maybe, not to northern Italy. A lot of the Spanish cases are in Madrid and Basque country, and not Barcelona. Nothing is closed down in Barcelona yet either.

You're not going for a few more days, they will be by then.

    Barcelona has a major outbreak:

156 cases in Catalonia by yesterday.
