There are bigger numbers coming tomorrow and the government are aware so expect some “changes”

Is this a thumb in the air prediction or an informed advance notice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,445 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Incorrect Ireland is now 50 cases of Corona virus.

34 here. 16 in NI would be included in the UK numbers

I posted about schools being shut down and mods shut the thread. But I know for a fact it is happening on Friday. I know the amount of other cases too but I’ll leave that be

I don't know anything about her but apparently she is a nurse by profession. There was a BBC guy saying that she had been very affected by the impact of Covid and that she had been considering if there was any way she could make a contribution professionally.

Those numbers mean nothing without knowing the other variables involved.
For instance, Its a 6% death rate in Italy. That's because they have only tested 300,000 people. Kind of skewed. In other words worthless statistics.

He acts on advice given to him by the medical professionals in the HSE.
Also he doesn’t have the authority to make unilateral decisions to enforce shut downs, etc

Who has the authority to make these unilateral decisions?

The UK own some of them, not counted in Irelands figures.

    I feel that there is.

It helps to ridicule the pointless nonsense being spouted by those who don’t seem to understand how gov departments & ministers work.

The logic being applied is idiotic and deserves to be parodied

Oh okay I hadn't read the posts leading up to it so had little context. Fair enough actually as some of the rubbish posted here which is neither constructive nor true(social media and the like is a landfill) is amazing if it weren't so serious.

Yes some posters here for some reason want the health service to fail and some give the impression they alone could run the country and everyone in positions of power are feckless and have no idea what they are doing. I think the government and opposition parties are handling this as well as they can and seem to be trying to work together. I also think some of the comments towards the people charged with keeping us safe isn't even worth responding to. Our chief medical officer Dr Hollihin is doing a superb job and had certainly reassured me.

For as long as there are still people in the country who don't have the immunity provided by previous infection or the vaccine we are still waiting for.

Anyone thinking about going off the grid ? Eg maybe have a holiday home or just their main home - take time off work , kids out of school etc and just proper locking down ?

It has certainly crossed my mind to do so

I’d love to do that. I’m not working due to illness at the moment anyway, but I can’t imagine persuading my daughters, early twenties, to lock down. No way would they do it unless forced by government.

If I could code for **** I'd strip the timestamps and numbers of all the posts on this and all the previous threads and make a nice little infographic of the post rate and new posts per day. How would it compare to the HSE and other figures for the virus? The post rate seems to have slowed today.

Well if you had any clue about how different countries are handling this in very different ways the numbers would be illuminating.

Look at the USA and Italy v Germany and South Korea for example. As those have the most stark variance from the "mean"
