Grumpy Moore Street Traders

Years ago my brave Mam politely asked a Moore Street Trader if she could have some other bananas as opposed to the rotting black ones being proffered by a particularly grumpy trader. As you can guess the aul wan colourfully told my poor Mother to sod off.

Mortified my Mam turned to quietly leave (albeit bananaless) when the aul wan started shouting, quickly joined by a chorus of her toothless pals, who all started screeching in unison:

“Huuuuungaaaas Muddda!!” (*Hungers Mother’!)

This chant continued until my poor Mam was out of sight.

Needless to say we never again endured the questionable ‘delights’ of Moore Street fruit & veg! Since then my Mam can’t eat a banana without wincing! Can’t blame her to be fair.
